Weekly Update 10/27/25

10-27-25
From the Principal
Parents, Students, and Faculty,
Last week was full of excitement and school spirit! Our community pep rally was a huge success, and Friday night’s game against Randolph County was even better as we celebrated our seniors and hosted a Pink Out for cancer awareness. The night ended perfectly with a big win for the Indians! Thank you to everyone who came out to show their support—it was a great way to celebrate our students, athletes, and community pride.
This week brings another busy schedule. The Dental Van will be on campus Tuesday, and our middle school basketball teams will tip off their season the same day. On Friday, we’ll celebrate our students during the Good Standing Celebration, and our varsity football team will travel to Mitchell County for their final regular season game. Saturday will be a big day as well, with Cross Country competing in Sectionals and Seminole County hosting this year’s Region One-Act Play competition on our campus.
We’re proud to close out October on such a positive note and look forward to an exciting and productive November at Seminole County Middle High School, the best school in southwest Georgia!

Georgia Tour 2025
Twenty six 8th graders from Seminole County ventured across the state of Georgia last week experiencing a true classroom on wheels. Students traveled to FDR's Little White House in Warm Springs, the National Infantry Museum in Fort Benning and toured our Georgia capitol building in Atlanta. Hiking Dahlonega's gold mines and Amicalola Falls were adventurous experiences and finally learning about Savannah, our first capital and its rich history and heritage. A special thank you to all those who contributed to the success of this trip and to the parents that sacrificed to make this opportunity possible. We especially appreciate Mrs. Allison Stegall and Dr. Marie Godwin for their willingness to lead this trip and make this experience possible.
8th Grade attends a "Graveside Service" at Swamp Gravy
We are thrilled to share a recap of our recent field trip to Cotton Hall Theater, where our 8th graders experienced the captivating Swamp Gravy production, "Graveside Service." This engaging show showcased the rich storytelling tradition that Swamp Gravy has cultivated over the past 33 years, blending humor and spookiness in a unique exploration of our memories and the ways we honor those who have passed.
The performance took our students on a journey through tales of ghosts, angels, and even outings in the cemetery, all set against the enchanting backdrop of swaying Spanish moss. It was a delightful blend of the eerie and the entertaining, encouraging students to reflect on how we remember loved ones and the fun, sometimes silly ways we confront our fears.
The feedback from students has been positive, with many expressing how the production inspired both laughter and thought. This experience not only enriched their understanding of storytelling but also fostered a greater appreciation for the arts. We would like to extend our gratitude to the teachers and chaperones who made this trip possible, as well as to Cotton Hall Theater for hosting us. We look forward to more enriching experiences in the future!
Community Pep Rally Brings Spirit and Fun
Seminole County Middle High School and the Athletic Booster Club hosted the annual Community Pep Rally and Powder Puff Game, a favorite tradition that brings students, families, and the community together to celebrate Indian spirit.
The event was filled with excitement as school clubs and organizations set up booths selling delicious food, drinks, and spirit items. The cheerleaders, Green Machine Band, and football team fired up the crowd, keeping energy high throughout the night. One of the highlights of the evening was the presentation of letterman jackets to student-athletes who earned this special honor.
The Powder Puff football game followed, featuring spirited competition among the grade levels. Each class played hard for bragging rights, with the Class of 2027 (juniors) taking home the championship this year.
This annual event is always a night of fun, school pride, and community connection—helping everyone get excited and ready to cheer on the Indians in their final home football game of the season.
Class of 2026 Becomes “Seniors" for the Day!
Our Class of 2026 had everyone smiling as they showed up dressed as seniors for the day on Friday! Canes, curlers, cardigans, and walkers filled the halls as our soon-to-be graduates had fun embracing their “senior” status in style. From gray wigs to glasses and orthopedic shoes, their creativity and humor reminded everyone that growing older—like graduation—can be something to celebrate!
Senior Night Recognition
Seminole County Middle High School celebrated Senior Night on Friday evening during the pregame ceremony. Members of the football team, cheerleading squad, band, and cross country were honored for their dedication and accomplishments. Each senior was escorted by family members as Mrs. Albritton presented them with a gift from the school in recognition of their hard work and commitment.
This annual tradition is always a special moment for our school community as we celebrate our outstanding Class of 2026 and wish them the very best in their future endeavors.
Seminole County Middle High School Celebrates Unity Day
On Wednesday, October 22nd, Seminole County Middle High School came together to celebrate Unity Day, an event dedicated to promoting kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. Our school counselors, along with our GAP counselor and school social worker, led the celebration as part of National Bullying Prevention Month.
To show our unity and commitment to kindness, students participated in creating a kindness chain. Students were given an orange slip of paper to write a positive or inspiring message—something kind they wanted to share with others. These messages were linked together to form a long paper chain. By celebrating Unity Day, Seminole County Middle High School continues to encourage students to stand together against bullying and to spread kindness every day—not just in October, but all year long.

GHSA statement on NIL
The Georgia High School Association (GHSA) voted to amend its policies regarding Name, Image, and Likeness payments to prep student-athletes. The changes are focused on curtailing any activity from what is known as NIL Collectives, a system that has permeated and fundamentally altered college athletics. NIL Collectives are shell corporations that function to exploit loopholes in NIL policy and allow donors to pay student-athletes for their athletic talents and enrollment at specific institutions –– these payments are often used in a recruiting context to maintain current players, solicit transfer athletes, or sign top level high school recruits.
With fear of the NIL Collective system seeping down from the NCAA and into the high school level, the GHSA has taken swift action to amend its rules. The new language to GHSA policy was formally voted in yesterday: “No student-athlete may be a member of nor receive compensation or any other benefit from a Collective or NIL Club. A Collective is defined as any group organized or existing for the purpose of compensating or benefiting an individual student[-]athlete or group of student athletes of a member school. NIL Clubs are defined as a group of student athletes organized or existing for the purpose of soliciting funds or other benefits from fans, members or other sources, managing or promoting NIL activities of student athletes or otherwise providing funds or other benefits to an individual student athlete or group of student athletes.”
