CELEBRATING 100 DAYS OF SCHOOL
It is hard to believe that we are over halfway through the school year! Time flies when you are having fun!
Our primary students celebrated our 100th day of school with a variety of activities. Kindergarten students got creative and made pictures with one hundred objects. This was an opportunity for our youngest students to represent one hundred. Another activity required students to make patterned necklaces showing multiples of 10. Kindergarteners ended the week by parading through the school dressed as 100 year olds.
In other grades, classes set a goal of reading one hundred books and reflected on what they loved most about the first half of the year. First graders also wrote what their life would look like when they turn one hundred. Their responses described their new appearance (white hair, glasses, no hair!) and hobbies (napping).
HANDS-ON MATH & SCIENCE IN THE S.T.E.A.M. LAB
Students at all grade levels are enjoying hands-on math and science explorations in the S.T.E.A.M. lab. In the last math rotation students in kindergarten through third grade made all the different coin combinations for an identified amount of money. Second and third graders “shopped” for favorite items and made change. The scenario of spending money on desired toys was especially motivating! Fifth graders assumed the role of a Fedex employee charged with the task of packaging multiple boxes in the most efficient shipping method. Students applied their understanding of volume to this real world scenario to determine how to fit boxes within one another.
Students are also having fun in their current science rotation. Younger students are studying life science. They are dissecting flowers and discovering how water flows throughout their plants. Older students are examining mixtures and solutions. They are noticing how butter can melt and then reform in a slightly different state.
Students enjoy collaborating on problems and watching math and science come to life!
NEW LIBRARY FURNITURE ARRIVED
The new seating, shelving and tables for the library arrived this week! The furniture design and bright pops of color are transforming the space. The furniture install should be completed by the end of next week. School staff will then begin reshelving books and putting on our final touches. We are happy to be adding several new titles to our collection, which will be available when the library reopens.
We cannot wait to reveal the space to students, staff and families! We anticipate opening the new library towards the end of the month. Please see future blogs for opportunities to visit the new space with your family.
As you are aware, our remodel was funded through Digger Dash Dollars and school reserves. We thank our parent community for contributing to this meaningful project! We feel fortunate that our strong financial position and our community contributions allow us to complete a full remodel.
DADDY DAUGHTER DANCE TONIGHT
We are excited for our first Daddy Daughter Dance this evening!
We look forward to seeing our girls and dads at the disco.
We thank our PTO and parent volunteers for making this new event possible!
