Bulldog Bulletin
HEARTLAND ELEMENTARY- week of August 16, 2026
Greetings from the Principal
Hello Heartland Families,
I hope everyone has had a great weekend and you were able to stay cool.
We had a great first full week of school. 4th grade finished iReady testing and the rest of the school starts tomorrow. Please encourage your child to do their best. It is very important that they do well on their first diagnostic so that they can be placed on their appropriate learning path. We want to make sure students are receiving the proper instruction according to their ability level.
As most of you are aware, I announced my retirement back in May. I am very happy to announce that Heartland's site base council and Superintendent Morgan named Mrs. Laura Alford to be the next principal. Mrs. Alford is currently assistant principal at Rineyville Elementary and is a product of the Hardin County School System. I am confident she will do a great job leading the students, families and staff into this next chapter of Heartland's history. Mrs. Alford will be shadowing me this week to begin the transition and will officially take over as your principal September 1st.
At the bottom of this newsletter will be a link to access our parent/student handbook. Below are some of the most important items you will want to remember.
1. Students must be in their classrooms by 7:30AM as to not be counted tardy. Anytime a student checks out early or comes in late, they will be counted tardy. We understand that students may have appointments etc., so please make sure to get a doctor's notes if that is the case. Families are also allowed 6 parent notes to help with attendance. Please send those in within 5 days after a student's absence. (page 7)
2. Safety- all visitors must report to the main office and provide ID and reason for visit. This is a state law that we follow diligently.
3. Bus notes- (page 10)
4. Wellness policy- food and drink from outside of school. If students are going to bring water to school, it must be in a CLEAR, PLASTIC container and no more than 24 oz in size. Anything larger is too big for student desks. All water bottles need to be able to fit in a students bookbag. (pages 14 and 15)
5. Dress code- page 13 (no slides, clogs or flip flops- Crocs must be worn with strap on the back)
6. Morning Drop off expectations- page 20-
7. Cell phones- Must be left in bookbags and turned off. (page 22)
8. To be a chaperone on a field trip, you must be an approved volunteer. (pages 26 and 27)
There is other important information within our handbook that I encourage you to go over. We will send out reminders in this news letter, so please feel free to ask questions if we do not adequately cover the information or if you need more clarification or if you would like a hard copy.
Students participated in their first fire drill last week and did an amazing job! Tomorrow we will do our 2nd fire drill that we are required to do. The rest of our required drills (lockdown, earthquake, and tornado) will take place next week.
Thank you for your continued support for our students, staff and school. Wishing you and your student a wonderful week of school.
Respectfully,
Emily Campbell
Principal
