Superintendent's Friday Message
October 23, 2026
Opening Message From Dr. Galusi
Dear Families & Caregivers,
Throughout the last 18 months, our district has worked on a collaborative effort to expand after school programming for our elementary students and families. Thank you to all of our caregivers, program staff members, building leaders, and the BASEC team for investing your time and prospectives for the betterment of our community.
The results of our shared work was on full display at Monday night's School Committee Meeting! Roberts Elementary After School students, staff and caregivers packed the chambers to hear students speak about their experience in the program this year. Students shared a stop motion teaser video detailing their ongoing work creating the best possible chair and answered questions from the Committee.
Afterwards, our new MPS Before & After School Managing Director Ms. Kaytie Dowcett presented an update on our ongoing work expanding the After School program, which features increased staffing, a 160-student enrollment increase & 134-student waitlist decrease compared to September, 2025 across all schools. Ms. Dowcett and her team continue to increase access and the quality of our program for our Medford community, and we are thankful for their incredible work! Visit Here for her full after school update from Monday's meeting.
Sincerely,
Dr. Galusi
MHS Building Project Update
Beginning next week, all four MHS Building Project Advisory team meetings will be gathering to discuss design element recommendations as we engage in the Schematic Design phase for the project. At the end of these meetings, each advisory team will create a recommendation to the School Building Committee on various project elements.
The project team will also once again be in attendance at multiple upcoming events this week to speak with community members about our ongoing work. Stop by the project table at tonight's home football game against Arlington Catholic, tomorrow's Missituk Elementary Trunk or Treat, and next Friday afternoon's Halloween Trick-or-Treat in the Medford Square.

Middle Schoolers Learn Biology In Unique Classroom
The BioBus Mobile Lab is a hands-on STEM training center that supports students as they discover, explore, and pursue science. At each stop, students across all three grade spans engaged with scientists on microscopic ecosystems, real-life organisms and more.
Thank you to National Grid for sponsoring this unique learning opportunity for our students during Massachusetts STEM Week! More pictures from the BioBus are available on our MPS Instagram page.
