St Anthony's School News

Week 5 - Thursday 21st May 2026
St Anthony's School community works collaboratively to teach and live the values of Christ. While respecting tradition, and to meet the demands of a rapidly changing society, it strives to educate our children to their full potential.
Principal's Address
How fitting it is that our Year 6 students receive the gifts of the Spirit in the Sacrament of Confirmation this coming weekend. The gift of the Spirit received in this sacrament helps them to be the face of Christ in the world. But a gift is only valuable if one uses it. It is up to the students receiving the gift of the Spirit to call on the Spirit for strength to “be the face of Christ” in their relationships with other.
Please keep our Confirmation candidates in your thoughts and prayers this weekend.
Upcoming Events
Complaints and Disputes
At the end of each enrolment interview with prospective parents there are three areas that I speak directly about.
The first is that the Catholic Ethos, our way of living like Jesus, is central to all we do and say at St Anthony’s School. This is spelt out further in our Padua Values and our St Anthony’s Way for staff, students, parents and community members.
The second is the school’s Code of Conduct – twelve principles that describe minimum standards behaviour and decision making to ensure the safety and well-being of students and all members of our community. This also includes the teaching of the Keeping Safe Curriculum to all year levels within the school.
The final area I discuss with parents is Dealing with a Dispute or Complaint. I explain that the first step is to speak with their child’s teacher. Teachers are unable to address student concerns or answer parent questions if they are not discussed with teachers when an issue arises. The best way to contact a teacher is via email. Teachers will endeavour to respond to your email within 48 hours and set up a mutually agreeable time to meet and discuss your concerns. As you would know from your own experiences, discussing concerns face-to-face is the best way to listen to each other and work out possible solutions.
God Bless

School Reports Update
As we approach the upcoming Semester 1 reporting period, we would like to advise families of an important change to student reports.
Previously, reports at St Anthony’s included both individual strand grades and an overall grade for each learning area. For example, within English, parents would see separate grades for Reading, Writing and Speaking and Listening, in addition to an overall English grade.
Following updated reporting direction from Catholic Education Western Australia (CEWA), reports will now display overall subject grades only. Individual strand grades will no longer appear on student reports.
While this represents a change in the format of reporting, it does not change the depth of assessment or the careful consideration teachers give to understanding and monitoring each child’s progress. Teachers continue to assess students across the various strands and components within each learning area throughout the semester. This assessment information remains central to planning, teaching and reporting.
The change to providing an overall grade only reflects the understanding that achievement in a learning area is broader than a simple collection of separate strand results. The School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) advises that overall grades are determined through professional teacher judgement against the achievement standards, using the range of evidence collected over time.
This means teachers consider the full picture of a student’s achievement when determining an overall grade. For example, a student may demonstrate differing levels of achievement across various aspects of a subject, and teachers use their professional expertise and knowledge of the achievement standards to make an informed overall judgement of the student's achievement.
We understand that families value clear and meaningful information about their child’s learning. Although reports will no longer include individual strand grades, teachers remain committed to providing feedback that identifies strengths, areas for growth and next steps for learning. Parent–teacher meetings and ongoing communication will continue to play an important role in supporting your child's progress.
We appreciate your support and understanding as we implement these reporting changes. If you have any questions regarding student reports, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
Your Move Help
Get Involved with Our “Your Move” Campaign
We are looking for interested members of our school community to help lead and support our Your Move campaign.
Your Move is a program that encourages students and families to choose active and sustainable ways to travel to school—such as walking, riding, scooting, or using public transport. The goal is to build healthy habits, reduce traffic around the school, and create a more active, connected community.
To keep the momentum going, we are hoping to form a small group of parents and community members who are willing to take a lead role in supporting the campaign.
This might include:
- Helping to plan and promote initiatives such as Your Move Wednesdays
- Organising simple activities or events throughout the year
- Assisting with rewards and prize systems for students
- Supporting communication and promotion within the school community
There is no expectation to take on a large workload—any level of support is appreciated, and involvement can be flexible.
If you are interested in getting involved or would like to find out more, please contact the school office or speak with me directly.
We would love to build a team of enthusiastic community members to help make active travel a regular part of school life.
