Principal Message

Hello Families!

Can you believe October is already here?! We are settling into the school year, and it has been inspiring to watch our Ravens step into routines with energy, focus, and care for one another.

This week, we continue building community with our 8th Grade Camp! Experiences like this take a tremendous amount of planning, effort, and support from our staff and family volunteers, and I can’t thank you enough for helping us create these memorable opportunities for our students.

Outside of camp, it will be business as usual here at RESMS as we continue building momentum into the fall. Please take a look at how we SOAR TOGETHER in photos at the bottom of this newsletter.

Take care and please reach out with any questions or concerns along the way!

Have a great week, and Go Ravens!

Zac, Devin, and Bunmi

Thank you Families!

At RESMS we came in with the idea that we can do middle school differently. A big part of that is giving all of our students at all grade levels. opportunities to connect with each other outside of the typical school setting. We would not be able to do this without the support of our families and chaperones. We need you. We thank you. Go Ravens

Even with Free Breakfast and Lunch for Every SPS Student, all SPS families are encouraged to complete the Child Nutrition Eligibility & Education Benefit (CNEEB) form.

Why?

  • It may qualify students for meal benefits and reduced fees.

  • It helps schools receive funding based on student need.

  • Complete information helps SPS plan and allocate resources effectively.

Don't think you'll qualify? No problem. The form now includes an option to "Decline Benefits.”. Submitting that response still helps us maintain complete and accurate information.

The best data is data that is complete.

Please take a few minutes to complete the form today. CNEEB

Screenagers Blog | Sleeping Next to Your Phone? What Parents Should Know

Many adults keep their phones by the bed — it feels harmless, even necessary. But what if that habit is quietly affecting our sleep and the example we set for our kids? In this week’s blog, Dr. Ruston shares two key things every parent should know about sleeping next to a phone, and how small nighttime tech changes can make a big difference for the whole family.

Prevention Lessons for Our 6th Graders

Dear 6th Grade Families,

I’m excited to share a new addition to our 6th-grade counseling program this year! I will be working with Ms. Syvertsen to bring short, engaging, and prevention-focused lessons into our students' classrooms throughout the year.

My goal is to visit students approximately once a month, rotating among their different classes. Throughout the year, students will have opportunities to learn and talk about important topics including substance use prevention, mental health, refusal skills, suicide prevention, and college and career readiness.

Depending on the topic, lessons may be facilitated by guest speakers, my counseling intern, or me.

We will begin Friday, September 25, with our first lesson focused on drug and alcohol prevention.

Families who would like to learn more or continue the conversation at home can explore the following resources:

Vaping:
https://childrenswi.org/elearningcenter/topics/alcohol-and-other-drug-use-prevention/braintees-5-8?scrlybrkr=557a6ca3

Drugs and Alcohol:
https://childrenswi.org/elearningcenter/topics/alcohol-and-other-drug-use-prevention/roadtrip-6

Inhalants:
https://childrenswi.org/elearningcenter/topics/alcohol-and-other-drug-use-prevention/escapethesituation-6

I will send families a schedule in the next few weeks with more information about the lessons planned throughout the school year.

Thank you for partnering with us to support our students. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to Ms. Hart or me.

Warmly,
Lilia Goldsmith
