Hello GLOBE Community!

We have a lot of events coming up and want to highlight these opportunities for us to finally gather in person again. As with all our programs, we rely on a robust volunteer force, and we hope you'll join us.

• This Saturday is GLOBE Day! This is campus beautification, Earth Day, International Fest and Screen on the Green all rolled into one! We will have used uniforms and spirit wear for sale Saturday, and we'll be conducting electronics recycling available at Lower Campus throughout the week. Spread the word — and click here to volunteer.

• Next, we will be helping to welcome the newest GLOBE families at GLOBE 101 and kindergarten roundup! Please sign up to help introduce these new families to GLOBE. (We're thrilled to have in-person volunteer opportunities again!)

• The annual GLOBE Auction is back, with both a virtual silent auction (April 29–30) and an in-person live auction (April 30) at Wild Heaven Brewery in Avondale. Register today. In-person auction tickets include Wild Heaven beer/hard seltzer and snacks, and food trucks will be on site so you can purchase dinner. Registration for the silent auction is FREE.

The PTCC is also busy planning for Staff Appreciation Week, and we will be helping to support the upcoming Field Days for K–5. Finally, we have PTCC officer elections next week, so please stay tuned for more information and voting instructions.

Again, if you're interested in volunteering, we have a lot of openings, both for leadership and support positions. We hope you'll engage with us and stay tuned to the PTCC Facebook page for the latest updates. We are looking forward to seeing everyone soon!

On Friday, April 15, the Lakeside High School Marching Band visited our 6th and 8th grade band classes. They performed for us, and then they joined our students for a side-by-side rehearsal of our music. May is Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. This year our GLOBE community have the opportunity to create posters that will be put on display at both campuses. Follow this sign-up link for more information, and to choose the poster you would like to create.

Together we'll beautify the Lower Campus creek, celebrate international cultures, and enjoy the very best of the GLOBE community. Whether you come for an hour or stay well into the evening, you won’t want to miss it.

Earth Day Recycling Week at GLOBE

We are pleased to partner with eWaste ePlanet from April 22 to April 29 for Earth Day. Click on the flyer to see what types of eWaste donations you can drop off at the eWaste bin at Lower Campus during this time.

Staff Appreciation Week: May 2–6

Join PTCC on Wednesday, May 4, to show GLOBE staff your appreciation. Have your children bring 'love notes' to their teachers and at least one other staff member.

Volleyball training clinics

Every Tuesday and Thursday in April, we are holding volleyball training clinics. They are open to anyone who is interested in the 5th, 6th or 7th grade. Download the flyer for more detailed information, and find out how to register.

Flag Football

Congratulations to the GLOBE 1 flag football team for being regular season champs! The flag football championships are being held on Tuesday, April 26.

Tennis

The boys tennis team defeated Galloway 5-0 this past week, and are 5-2 for the season. The girls team play Galloway tomorrow and will be competing in the MAAC Conference Tournament next Tuesday, April 26, at Blackburn, starting at 1pm.

Annual Verification – If you received a notification from DCSD informing parents to complete the Annual Verification for 2022-23 School Year, please disregard the communication at this time. GLOBE will request families to complete this process in the summer months prior to the start of school.

We understand that plans can change. If your student’s plans to return to GLOBE have changed from “yes” to “no” between now and the start of the 2022 school year, please complete this form. Having an accurate count for the school year allows us to plan and budget appropriately or allows a student from our waiting list to fill the open spot.

Please note, if you applied your student in DeKalb County’s School Choice lottery, and if they earned a seat in a different school, DCSD will automatically pull their enrollment from GLOBE. If you do not wish to have your child pulled to the awarded School Choice school, you will need to notify GLOBE’s registrar via email.

All meetings of the Board of Directors are open to the community. You can find the full calendar of board meetings here. The next GLOBE Board of Directors meeting will be held on Monday, April 25, 2022 at 7pm. This meeting will be hosted remotely. For further details, click here.

The GLOBE Academy's Board of Directors is currently seeking candidates to serve on its Governance Committee. This committee is responsible for board member recruitment, nomination, orientation, training, and evaluation of Board members in accordance with the bylaws and policies and practices approved by the Board. This committee also reviews and recommends changes to bylaws and board policies as needed.

Committee members can be anyone from the community, they do not have to have a current affiliation with GLOBE.

Weekly COVID-19 testing

Viral Solutions will be back on campus again on Thursday, April 21, to provide all GLOBE students and staff with access to free rapid antigen testing. The positivity rates of each testing clinic can be found on tab 2 of the Data Dashboard. Results will be updated the day after each testing clinic occurs. If you would like to enroll your student in testing for the semester, you can fill out the consent form here. If you have questions about the testing process or how to receive your student's results, please read the FAQ flyer.

Updated mask policy

On March 7, 2022, The GLOBE Academy updated its mask policy for all students. The full policy can be reviewed here. Although masks are not required for entry into the school building, if your child is showing signs and symptoms of COVID-19, please seek a negative COVID-19 test (rapid at-home or rapid/PCR at a testing location) before sending them back to school. Please also have them wear a mask at school until their symptoms improve.
