STEM Family,

Good evening STEM families! Happy Mother's Day to all of our STEM mom's!

As a reminder there is NO 2 hour delay for STEM this month, so school does start at 9am on the 12th and 19th (no school on the 26th for Memorial Day).

This week we have our 4th quarter PBIS Incentive trip to Lex Lanes! This is a fun trip for our students and teachers! It is very important that students have a clean pair of tennis shoes to wear to bowl in! They will not be able to bowl in sandals, boots, Crocs, or muddy shoes. Students that have had 2 or more office referrals during the 4th 9 weeks (since spring break) will not be invited to attend the field trip).

Just 14 school days left! Students are getting restless! Please remind them that they need to continue to follow rules and teacher/adult directions at school. Our discipline is progressive, meaning every time there is an office referral, the consequences go up. What may seem to be a little thing may end up with big consequences if it is the 3rd or 4th time there's been a referral this year. (especially for bus referrals)

Thank you so much to all of the families that provided the yummy food and desserts for our staff this week for teacher appreciation! I was amazed at the food that kept coming in the door Friday morning - and the teachers were definitely thankful!

Sincerely,

Cara Will, principal

Students with 2 or more office referrals in the 4th quarter will not be able to participate in the bowling activity.

What's Happening at STEM? What's Happening at STEM?

Gorman Nature Center

Gorman Nature Center is one of our community partners. They host us for field trips often and sometimes come to the school to share special presentations. Our students go there many times throughout their career at STEM, but each time they go, they learn about something a little bit different. The naturalists work with our teachers to make sure their time spent at the center is connected to the curriculum they are learning at each level. We are very lucky to have them as a partner!

6th Grade Study at Gorman Nature Center

The sixth graders were divided into two groups. Each group was given information about turtles, snakes and other animals. They were each given the chance to hold a snake and surprisingly most of them did! Then they were taken to one side of the pond and used small net skimmers to try to find frogs, tadpoles, eggs, insects.....

After several folks slipped and fell in the mud....not to mention names, but... Mrs. Woodmansee, Sabastian, Cowen, Kendra and most of the rest of us had problems slipping and sliding in all the mud from the recent amount of rain. Finally, they took a nature walk with two guides who pointed out various species of trees: Buckeye, Dogwood, Tulip tree and a variety of wildflowers.

2nd Grade Makes a Splash!

Here are a few photos from our field trip today to Gorman Nature Center! The kiddos got to hold a rat snake, touch a box turtle, take a hike, and discover wildlife in the pond
