All students in grades 9-12 are invited to join the Student Advisory Committee (SAC). The SAC is a group of students who actively advise the principals, the superintendent, and the Maynard School Committee. If you want to shape the future of MHS, and make the school even better for all students, this is the committee for you!

Each Tuesday, the group meets during a different academic block (if that teacher allows). Each week, we discuss student concerns and questions. Administrators also often ask the committee for feedback on their plans. Another important SAC responsibility is writing the Student Report, which is an important part of every School Committee meeting.

If you are looking to get involved in a group that meets during the school day, and that really makes a difference, please consider joining SAC! Look for an email during the first days of school, let Mrs. York or Ms. Doktorov know you are interested, or ask your D Block teacher if you can join us in the Principals' Conference Room on Tuesday, September 2!

Interested students (and their families) are encouraged to attend the first WAVM meeting of the school year. Mr. Basile, the CEO's, and the staff will explain how the station works, the various trainings being offered, and much more. The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 3, at 7:00 PM, in the Auditorium.

JOIN THE NEW THEATER CLUB JOIN THE NEW THEATER CLUB

Everyone at Maynard High School is excited -- our new English teacher, Ms. Jillian Wadland, is also an experienced Theater director! Ms. Wadland invites all students interested in acting, technical work, or any aspect of theatre to an organizational meeting on Wednesday, September 3rd at 2:15 in the Auditorium. Get ready for an exciting year with many fun activities in store!

On Saturday, September 13th, students from both the MHS National Honor Society and the Fowler School National Junior Honor Society in conjunction with the Maynard Police, the Maynard Food Pantry, Market Basket of Maynard and the Rotary Club of Nashoba Valley will be participating in Stuff a Cruiser at Market Basket in Maynard from 10am - 1pm.

Stuff a Cruiser is a friendly competition between the surrounding towns of Hudson, Stow, Lancaster, Bolton, Concord and Clinton to see who can collect the most food and/or money for their local food banks. The town with the greatest total weight collected earns bragging rights for the year. Last year Maynard collected over 3,700 pounds of donations (over 2,100 pounds of food and $800 in cash) and missed out on winning by just 14 pounds.

Beginning Wednesday, September 3rd until Friday, September 12th there will be bins located in each building where items can be dropped off. There will also be a cash donation box in each of the main offices if you would like to make a monetary donation. Every dollar donated is equivalent to 2 pounds of food. All donations will go to the Maynard Food Pantry.

Congratulations and a HUGE "Thank You" to Senior Siena Hesbach for her Girl Scout Gold Medal Project. Siena has spearheaded the installation of permanent AEDs around school grounds, and in other outdoor spaces in Maynard. AEDs can save the life of a person having a cardiac arrest during the first critical moments.

As you read through our calendar, you may have noticed a new entry for "Tiger Days". This school year, the MHS faculty is piloting a special schedule once in every seven-day rotation. These days will be used for many purposes:

  • Advisory (our regular Advisory that we know and love)
  • Class Meetings
  • Vision of the Graduate Portfolio
  • Special Assemblies
  • Extra Help/Study Hall

Rather than missing class time, we will now have a special time in place for these activities, and more. This is just a pilot, so be ready to give us feedback about whether it is working! Check your first day of school packet for Tiger Day plans and schedules.
