Dear Adventure Families,

In a few weeks on September 18, Adventure will host our third annual Fun Run fundraising event! Students and families have come to look forward to and love this fun day at school and we are excited to kick off the event next week. Our school fundraising goal is $12,000 and each individual student goal is $25. All the money raised goes directly back to students in the way of field trips, special school events and assemblies, and student recognition awards. Last year we raised $11,893 and we were able to fund at least one field trip for each student, oftentimes more in addition to offering several author visits and an incredible assembly with the Latin-Grammy winning music group 123 Andrés! Donations can be made online at 99 Pledges or via cash or check in the main office. Our school community has been so supportive through this event in the last two years and we are so grateful to provide the enriching activities for our students as a result of this fundraiser. We only raise money one time each year, so this is the only time we will ask for your financial support in this way. Thank you in advance!

New this year, in response to parent requests in last spring's surveys, grade level teams are sharing monthly newsletters. In these newsletters, families can read about what their student is learning. The newsletters are linked below ("What is my student learning?" button) and will always be available on our school website.

Saludos,

Sarah and Marisa

Student CMAS Data Student CMAS Data

We are so proud of how much our students have learned and grown this past school year. In April, students had the opportunity to showcase their learning and skills on the Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS) tests, and they did an amazing job!

We’re excited to share that your child’s preliminary CMAS performance report will be available online through the Family Portal. This secure platform provides an easy way for you to view important information about your child’s academic progress based on the only assessments given to all Colorado students that measure what students should know and be able to do at the end of each grade.

Sign in to view your student's full results, including score breakdowns, areas of strength and growth, peer comparisons, and tips for supporting learning at home! To sign in, you need your student’s SASID (State Student Identifier). If you don't have it, please contact your school or district. District Assessment Coordinator contact information is available at cde.state.co.us/assessment/dac.

CMAS Scores Are One Piece of the Puzzle

CMAS scores provide valuable insights about your child’s academic journey based on Colorado’s grade level expectations. We encourage you to view them alongside classroom grades and teacher feedback for a more complete picture of your child’s progress. Please take a few minutes to review your child’s results and celebrate their hard work!

Mapleton Attendance Policies Mapleton Attendance Policies

September is Attendance Awareness Month, reinforcing the importance of being at school every day and on time. Good attendance serves as "a key predictor of academic achievement and social development" and is considered "the foundational element of success: presence in school" (JH_JHB). Students who consistently attend school are more likely to grasp complex concepts, participate in class discussions, and benefit from collaborative learning opportunities.

Consistently missing even parts of a school day have a noticeable negative impact. So, even arriving 20 minutes late each day causes students to struggle to integrate into the classroom community because they miss the beginning welcoming and connection time with classmates. Missing one afternoon each week results in 20% missed reading instruction every week.

Each quarter, Adventure students who have 0–1 absences will be invited to join a special celebration to honor their commitment to showing up and giving their best.

According to Colorado state law, students should miss no more than 10 days in a school year. Attendance tracking is required to comply with the Colorado School Attendance Law (C.R.S. 22-33-101), which mandates that students attend classes unless excused for good reason (1_CCR_301-78). At our school, the day begins promptly at 8:00 AM, and students arriving after 8:05 will be marked tardy. Teaching and learning will begin promptly at 8:05. To support on-time arrival, Mrs. Kopperud and Ms. Abreo will greet late arrivals after 8:05 outside and remind families of the importance of punctuality. Students arriving after 8:05 must be accompanied to the office by an adult to receive a tardy pass. Together, we can build strong habits that support every child’s success—because every day counts, and every minute matters!

Meal Benefit Applications Meal Benefit Applications

At Mapleton Public Schools, we believe every child should have the fuel they need to learn, grow, and thrive. That’s why we’re proud to participate in Colorado’s Healthy School Meals for All program—offering free breakfast and lunch to every student, every school day.

Even though meals are free, we encourage every family to fill out the 2025–26 Meal Benefit Application (English Link) (Spanish Link). Completing this quick form can unlock extra support for your family and additional resources for our schools!

We are pleased to share information about Adventure's Gifted and Talented (GT) program and how it supports the academic and social-emotional needs of students who demonstrate advanced abilities and potential.

Purpose of the GT Program

Our Gifted and Talented program is designed to challenge and enrich the learning experiences of students who show exceptional abilities in one or more areas. These areas may include intellectual ability, creativity, leadership, artistic talent, and/or academic achievement. Our goal is to nurture each child’s strengths, encourage critical thinking, and foster a lifelong love of learning.

Identification Process

Students are identified for GT services through a combination of teacher referrals, parent input, standardized test scores, classroom performance, and other assessments. If you believe your child may qualify for GT services and would like to know more about the referral process, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Programming and Services

Our Dual Language Gomez & Gomez model is an enrichment model and serves our students identified for GT services well. Additional GT services are embedded within the school day and may include:

  • Differentiated instruction within the regular classroom a may include individualized project based opportunities
  • Opportunities for creativity, problem-solving, and leadership development
  • Enrichment opportunities such as academic competitions or special events

We work closely with classroom teachers to ensure that GT students are both challenged and supported throughout their academic journey.

Communication and Support

Families will receive regular updates on student progress and program activities. We will develop student Advanced Learning Plans in collaboration with students and families starting in October. These plans support us in creating goals and programming that aligns with students’ needs and interests.

Our GT Lead, Brie Shoemaker, is available to answer any questions and to collaborate with families on meeting students’ needs. You can contact her at shoemakerb@mapleton.us.

At Adventure Elementary, we believe every child has unique gifts and talents. Our GT program is one of the many ways we strive to personalize learning and help each student reach their full potential.
