Suicide Prevention Awareness Month
At Fremd, the well-being of our students is our top priority. This month the Wellness Department and Student Services Department are partnering to provide Erika’s Lighthouse, a nationally recognized mental health education program focused on depression awareness and suicide prevention. The program helps students recognize signs of depression, reduce stigma, and understand how to seek help for themselves and for peers.
During the month of September:
- Grade 9 and Grade 10 students will participate in a four-day Erika’s Lighthouse program during their Wellness class. This comprehensive program includes lessons on understanding depression, recognizing warning signs, and learning how to seek help for themselves or their peers.
- Grade 11 and Grade 12 students will receive a one-day refresher lesson focused on reinforcing key concepts and promoting ongoing mental health awareness.
All instructional materials are designed to be teen-appropriate, inclusive, and hopeful, with an emphasis on student empowerment and connectedness.
We have encouraged students to utilize the National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988 when they are not in school. They can also access 988 through online chats: https://988lifeline.org/.
