First Week of School Highlights!
Back to School Night--Wednesday, September 9th
We are excited to invite you to our annual Back to School Night as we kick off another fantastic year of learning. To best support our families, we will offer two informational sessions, allowing parents and guardians with more than one child at our school the opportunity to attend multiple classrooms.
This evening is designed for parents and guardians, and we kindly ask that students do not attend.
During the event, classroom teachers will provide valuable information about daily schedules, class expectations, and the learning environment. We strongly encourage all families to attend and help us build a strong home–school partnership for a successful year ahead.
Back to School Night Details:
Parking is limited. Please DO NOT park on Haws Lane or in a numbered spot around the building. We ask that you plan to use the parking spaces in our upper parking lot behind the cafeteria as well as at the High School and Middle School.
Families may enter through the main entrance or the entrance near the cafeteria.
Upon arrival, families will be directed to their child’s classroom or the gym.
Our special area teachers, specialists, and food services departments will have information available for families and answer questions about their specialty areas in the gym from 6:00 PM until 7:15 PM.
Classroom Session 1: 6:10-6:50 PM
Classroom Session 2: 7:00-7:40 PM
Reminder: Families only need to attend one of the two sessions. Two informational sessions have been provided in the event a family has more than one child attending our school.
We are looking forward to seeing you soon!
Erdenheim Family Communication
As we kick off the 2026-27 school year, we wanted to share some information on what you can expect from us at Erdenheim Elementary this year in terms of communication. We have an amazing teaching staff who bring a diverse range of experiences, styles, and perspectives, and they all run their classrooms in the way that works best for their students. At the same time, there are some common experiences and expectations you can expect from us as a team.
All communication will come to the email address we have in our system. You do not need to download a special app or sign up for another service to get updates from building administrators, homeroom teachers, music teachers, and more.
Mr. Speicher and Ms. Robinson will send a school-wide newsletter every Friday afternoon with updates, reminders, and resources. Some information will be new each week, and we will also try to keep information about upcoming events in the newsletter for a few weeks so you don’t miss it.
Dr. Yannacone sends a monthly newsletter to the entire district, and we will link hers and any other district central office newsletters in our Erdenheim newsletter as well.
Homeroom teachers will send whole class communication on a regular basis. Different teachers have different routines for this based on the style they find works best, but you can expect to know how frequently and when to expect regular updates about what is happening in the classroom, as well as upcoming tests and special events.
For special events and field trips, you will often know far in advance, but at the very least you’ll know a month out. There is always a physical and online payment system option for trips.
Erdenheim Elementary Family Resources
Carline Reminders
For families dropping off and picking up students in the carline, please remember that cars must enter from Paper Miller Road and come down Springfield Way and turn left into our upper parking lot. This will help to prevent congestion at the entrance of the upper parking lot. We appreciate everyone's efforts to help us keep carline running smoothly.

SDST Elementary Curriculum Guide
Smartwatch and Cell Phone Reminders
Elementary Smartwatch & Cell Phone Use: Ensuring smartwatch and cell phone use at the Elementary Level is only occurring outside of the instructional day. Students are not to wear or use these devices in school. We will expect them (if brought to school) to remain in their personal backpacks until after school hours.
Football at Recess
As we begin the school year, our staff is continuing to teach, practice, and reinforce shared expectations for a safe, respectful, and inclusive recess experience.
To support this work, football will not be available during recess for the month of September. This temporary pause will allow students and staff to focus on building strong routines, practicing positive sportsmanship, and ensuring that all students understand how to participate safely in recess activities.
We will revisit this decision at the end of September and communicate any updates with families. Thank you for your partnership as we work together to create a positive recess environment for all students.
Fall Benchmark Assessments
Each year, students take a standardized assessment at the beginning, middle, and end of the school year to help us measure academic growth and guide instruction. This year, students will complete the LinkIt! PA Core Benchmark Assessment, which is aligned with Pennsylvania state standards and provides valuable data to help teachers tailor instruction and support student learning. Students will take the beginning-of-year assessment within the first two weeks of school to establish a baseline score. The assessment includes sections for reading and math each taking about one class period to complete. As always, we ask that you simply encourage students to do their best.
