38th Asian-Pacific Children’s Convention (APCC) open to students age 10-11

The Japan-America Society of Hawaii (JASH) is now accepting applications for the 38th Asian-Pacific Children’s Convention (APCC). This cultural exchange program features in-person weekend workshops and local field trips in Hawaii, culminating in an international youth camp and homestay in Fukuoka, Japan. Students in Hawaii born between August 1, 2014 and July 31, 2015 (ages 10–11) are eligible to apply.

Through a competitive selection process, JASH will select four students (two boys and two girls) as Junior Ambassadors (JAs). They will join peers from over 60 countries and regions across Asia and the Pacific at the APCC global camp in Fukuoka in mid-July (*travel dates to be announced). Students from Waikiki School have been selected for this prestigious opportunity in recent years.

Leading up to the trip, JAs will participate in JASH workshops on Oahu, which include:

  • Hands-on experiences with Japanese culture
  • Activities highlighting Asia-Pacific cultures
  • Cross-cultural research projects
  • Leadership development and team-building activities
  • An overnight camp at Camp Erdman on Oahu’s North Shore

The APCC’s vision is to deepen appreciation of diverse cultures, promote international friendship and understanding, nurture global awareness, and contribute to peace and coexistence. JASH’s curriculum helps JAs broaden their perspectives while building skills in cross-cultural communication, leadership, and teamwork—empowering them as the next generation of Nichibei (Japan-America) leaders.

Application details:

  • Applications require the school principal’s signature and two teacher recommendations.
  • Applications are due to JASH by Monday, December 8, 2025.
  • Submission options: online (www.jashawaii.org/education/apcc), mail, or fax.

Important Schedule Change for October Release Time

Please take careful note of an important change to our early release schedule for the week of October 20th. We have swapped the early release times for Wednesday, October 22nd and Friday, October 24th.

This adjustment was discussed and officially approved by the Waikiki School Community Council (SCC) to allow for the necessary setup and staging of our annual Haunted House Event on the 24th.

The NEW Early Release Schedule is as follows:

Date Day Event/Reason New Release Time

October 22 Wednesday Standard Release Time 2:15 PM

October 24 Friday Haunted House Event Prep 1:30 PM

Please update your calendars and make all necessary after-school care and transportation arrangements for these changes, especially the much earlier 1:30 PM dismissal on Friday, October 24th.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to make the Haunted House event a fun and successful experience for our students!

Given that October 22 is also "Wacky Wednesday" as a part of spirit week, find ways to incorporate both orange and expressing yourself in a wacky and mindful way.
