Dear Algonquin Lakes Elementary School Families,

We hope everyone had a wonderful Halloween! If you have any extra candy you’re looking to get rid of, we’d love to take it off your hands! Donations can be dropped off in our front office and will be shared with our ALES Team for upcoming activities and celebrations.

As we move deeper into the fall season, we are reminded how quickly the weather in the Midwest can change! With cooler mornings now upon us, please encourage your children to dress appropriately for the temperature. Layers are great and don't forget jackets, gloves or mittens, and hats to help them stay comfortable during morning arrival and recess each day. If your child happens to misplace a personal belonging, please remind them to check our Lost & Found. We would love to see all those missing items reunited with their owners!

Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place on November 23 and 24. This year, sign up will be online using PTC Wizard. The following information will help you to make this as smooth as possible:

Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled via the web at https://app.ptcwizard.com/ale300/login (This link is only active once the conference scheduling window opens.) Please see parent directions for PTC Wizard link in below.

Use the username from your PowerSchool parent portal to access your PTC Wizard account.

Monday, November 23 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Tuesday, November 24 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Conference Scheduling Window: The window for parents/guardians to schedule conferences opens at 10 AM on November 6, 2026, and closes at Noon on November 20, 2026.

Reference the directions below to schedule your conference.

If you have problems registering online, please contact the office at 847-532-7500 and ask for Mrs. Linden.

If you do not have online access, the office can manually schedule your child’s conference for you.

Parent-Teacher Conferences play a vital role in the success of children. We strongly encourage you to participate in conferences and look forward to seeing you! If you encounter any issues registering online, please contact our office at 847-532-7500. Families without online access may call the office to have their conferences scheduled manually.

We are looking forward to recognizing and thanking our Veterans on Wednesday, November 11th, during our annual Veterans Day celebration. If you or a family member have served in the Armed Forces and would like to be part of our special recognition, please contact the school office, and ask for Mrs. Linden, as soon as possible.

We are eager to honor the brave men and women who have served our country and to give our students the opportunity to express their gratitude. Thank you for helping us make this meaningful event a success!

Kindest Regards,

Marilynn [Smith] Jankovich

Our Boys Running Club celebrated their final run this week, wrapping up a fantastic season! A huge thank-you to all of our running heroes who laced up their shoes and ran alongside our boys, cheering them on every step of the way. Special thanks to Coach Paplanus and Coach Maher for their time, encouragement, and dedication. What a great season of teamwork, perseverance, and fun!

Happy Halloween from ALES! Happy Halloween from ALES!

ALES Halloween Celebration 2026 2027

What a spooktacular Halloween celebration at ALES! A huge thank-you to all of our parent volunteers for sharing your time, energy, and enthusiasm to help make the day so special for our students. We are grateful for your partnership and support in making memories that will last long after the Halloween treats are gone!

ALES Mystery Readers 2026

Strengthening community partnerships is one of District 300’s key anchors, and at ALES, we wanted to find a meaningful way to bring those partnerships directly into student learning this fall. Our MTSS-A team collaborated to brainstorm an engaging opportunity and came up with the idea of hosting an all-school Mystery Reader Event on the morning of October 29, in conjunction with our Halloween parade and classroom celebrations.

Our guest readers represented a wonderful variety of community organizations, including the Algonquin Fire Department; the Algonquin and Lake in the Hills Police Departments; the Dundee Township Park District; the President of Algonquin; the Algonquin and Dundee Township Libraries; Organic Life; and two retired D300 teachers.

We even had a special visit from Joe and Tina from Joe and Tina Mornings on Star 105.5, who joined in the fun and read to our students!

A huge shout-out and thank-you to our D300 colleagues who also generously gave their time to support this event:

D300 IT: Jahan Rodriguez and Adrian Sanchez

D300 Curriculum and Instruction: Chris Columbaro, Sara Turner, Nic Pool, Alyssa Gilleland, and Kelley Murphy

D300 Facilities and Operations: David Garcia, Reagan Pollina, Bennett Paterson, and Marcos Campos

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make this event possible. Your time, enthusiasm, and willingness to connect with our students made the morning special and reminded us of the power of community. At ALES, we know that when our community comes together, we create meaningful experiences, build lasting connections, and show our students that they are supported by a community that believes in them!

Teacher Institute Day was an opportunity for our educators to come together, learn, reflect, and grow as professionals. Our day focused on strengthening instructional practices through professional development in Mathematics, engaging in meaningful collaboration within our Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), and deepening our understanding of the importance of Sense of Belonging within the dimensions of being Known and Accepted.

Together, we are growing our practice, strengthening our connections, and creating a culture where everyone belongs!

This November, we are focusing on Habit 3: Put First Things First! This habit teaches students how to prioritize what matters most, manage their time, and make choices that help them reach their goals. Learning to balance responsibilities, relationships, and fun helps students become more organized, responsible, and successful leaders.

Families can reinforce this habit at home by encouraging children to:

  • Identify what needs to be done first before moving on to fun activities.
  • Create a simple daily or weekly schedule for homework, chores, activities, and downtime.
  • Break big tasks into smaller steps to make them more manageable.
  • Avoid distractions when working on an important task.
  • Practice saying “no” or “not yet” to things that can wait.
  • Make time for what matters most, including family, friends, learning, and personal well-being.

Week 1: What is something important that you need to get done each day? How do you make sure it gets done?
