Hello Compass Families!
Another week filled with exceptional learning experiences is in the books at Compass! It has been exciting to see our students working hard each day and putting forth great effort as they continue to grow and improve their learning. Our classrooms are full of engagement, collaboration, and meaningful learning opportunities, and we are proud of the work our students are doing.
This is also a reminder that Monday is a Professional Learning Day, so students do not have school. We hope your family enjoys the three-day weekend and has an opportunity to relax and spend time together.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. We truly could not do this work without our families, and we appreciate all you do to support our students and Compass Elementary. Have a wonderful weekend!
Go Pirates!

Know a Pirate Who's "CRUSHING IT"? Nominate Them for Orange Crush! (Please link the image to the nomination form)
Platte County School District is starting a new tradition to recognize the employees who make a difference every day.
Orange Crush celebrates Pirates who are “CRUSHING IT” in the ways they support our students, staff, schools and community. From creating meaningful experiences and welcoming environments to showing exceptional care and making a positive impact, Orange Crush gives us a chance to shine a light on the people behind the everyday moments that matter.
All employee groups are eligible to be nominated throughout the school year. New Information
Birthday Treats
Celebrations and Birthdays: We believe it is important for the school to recognize our students on their birthday and other special days. However, for several reasons including increased food allergies, preservation of the instructional day, and student equality, students are not allowed to bring treats from home or have flowers/balloons or other items delivered to the classroom for birthdays, going-away parties, or other personal events. Each classroom teacher will recognize the student in a special way to celebrate his or her birthday. If a student receives a delivery at school, the student will be notified to come to the office to view the item. Parents will be responsible for transporting the item home. Birthday party invitations may only be distributed if invitations are given to every student in the class.

Platte County Education Foundation
This week, we kicked off our Platte County Education Foundation fundraiser. Our schools, in conjunction with Major Saver, work with businesses throughout our District to offer a $20 discount card providing customers with 22 local buy-one-get-one-free or discount offers. Proceeds from the fundraising campaign directly benefit your student's school and the Platte County Education Foundation. The Foundation gives back to the Platte County R-3 community by awarding annual pre-K through 12th-grade classroom and building site grants, as well as senior scholarships, and sponsoring other meaningful experiences. The fundraiser wraps up on Wednesday, September 30. Please consider supporting our school!

Wear Gold on September 25
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and our District is coming together to show support. On September 25, we encourage all students, staff, and community members to wear gold in honor of those impacted by childhood cancer. Many of our PCR-3 families have been affected by this disease, and by wearing gold, we stand in solidarity with them. Let’s raise awareness and show our support for these brave children and their families as we work towards a future without childhood cancer.

Portrait of a Graduate
Since 2005, Pirates ROCK (Raising Outstanding Character Kids) has helped shape a strong culture of character across Platte County School District. More than 20 years later and beginning with the 2026-27 school year, we're building on that tradition by aligning Pirates ROCK with our Portrait of a Graduate essential skills.
This evolution creates a more consistent, student-centered approach to character development by focusing on the six essential skills that prepare learners to thrive in school, careers, and life. Students will continue to be recognized for demonstrating outstanding character while developing the competencies that support our mission of ensuring every learner thrives in an ever-changing world with confidence and resilience, all through a consistent framework and shared language as they grow from kindergarten through graduation.
Throughout the year, we'll focus on these essential skills:
- August/September: Effective Communication
- October/November: Self-Awareness
- December/January: Personal Connections
- February: Personal Growth
- March: Problem-Solving
- April: Global Connections

PCHS students and fans aged 55 and older are admitted free with a valid ID. Click here for a link to purchase all sports passes and individual tickets.
Safety Reporting
Safety is our District's top priority. PCR-3 has a system of safety and security measures in place, including trained security staff, secure entryways, ongoing monitoring, and partnership with local law enforcement.
We remind parents, staff, and students that school safety is the responsibility of the entire school community. Please follow the principle of "see something, say something." If anyone (student, parent, staff member, community member) sees or hears anything of concern, please contact the District office at (816) 858-5420 so that those concerns can be investigated. You and your child can also easily report tips on bullying, harassment, or any safety issue you're concerned about through our online Safe Schools Alert system. Every tip is immediately logged in the system and our administration is notified so that they can investigate and take appropriate action. Each building's website has the Safe Schools icon located within the “quick links” bar on the homepage.
