CARDINALS BASEBALL TEAM BREAKS SCHOOL RECORD ON SENIOR DAY
A special Senior Day celebration on the baseball field! Here's an update from EHS Head Varsity Baseball Coach Ryan Robinson:
"Senior Day was a special day for our Cardinals baseball team for many reasons. We played a double header with Woodland Park on Senior Day May 3rd. After winning the first game to improve our record to 15 wins on the season, this tied the school record for most wins in a season. In between games, we held our senior day activities. Being able to honor our seniors and their families is always one of the most exciting parts of this job. I am so proud of this group of 5 seniors this year and everything they have accomplished. They have worked hard and changed the baseball culture at Elizabeth High School. This year they have brought so much baseball excitement to the school, the program, and this community. After our Senior Day activities in between games, they went out and won the 2nd game of the double header 10-0. By winning this 2nd game, our Cardinals Baseball team broke the school record for most wins in a season by winning this 16th game of the season (and they still have 4 more to play). Our Seniors led the way to this accomplishment ! I could not be more proud, excited, and honored to be around this entire team and they continue to impress each and every day!"
Congratulations to the EHS Varsity Baseball team for hitting this new milestone and we look forward to seeing what the team has in store next!
ESD TRANSPORTATION TEAM FINISHES STRONG IN ANNUAL BUS RODEO
Putting their skills to the test!
ESD Transportation took part in the Colorado State Pupil Transportation Association (CSPTA) annual bus rodeo and had an excellent showing where they demonstrated their skills.
ESD Transportation Director Tiara Noe says at the competition, there were 50 gen-ed drivers from all over the state and 17 special needs teams that competed. Elizabeth School District had three drivers finish in the top 20 in the state for gen-ed. Noe says they had to do a written test and complete driving maneuvers. The team also had to find ten defects in just five minutes.
The special ed team was tasked with completing a full sped pre-trip in just 10 minutes where they have to make sure the vehicle is safe to operate, like checking the engine, doing a lights check and inspecting the emergency exits.
They also had to do a wheelchair securement test, where they had just five minutes to secure a student and they also had to perform in an emergency situation.
Noe says ESD finished second in most team points in the state.
Congratulations to the ESD Transportation team for performing well under pressure!
CREATIVITY PUT TO THE TEST AT FIRST LEGO LEAGUE EXPLORE TEAM FESTIVAL
All about robotics!
Recently at STEM School Highlands Ranch, 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students from Singing Hills Elementary took part in the FIRST Lego League Explore Team Festival. Susan McMullen and Ashlyn Crossland represented as coaches and the three teams were called "The Underwater Explorers", "The 5 Legos" and "The Squid Builders".
Teams investigated a challenge related to a real-world theme, designing and building their solution as a group. Using LEGO Education WeDo 2.0 they have learned to code their team model to move and be interactive using sensors.
In Mrs. McMullen's STEM classroom at SHE, guest speakers have been visiting and telling students about their STEM careers.
Ed Ryan started his career working as a machinist in a small shop. Later, he worked on the Hubble Space Telescope as the project coordinator. He spent 32 years working for Lockheed Martin and talked to the students about how important hard work and determination is for any career.
Arthur Scott, a retired aerospace engineer was the chief engineer on early space shuttle launches and a variety of other space projects. He spent 35 years working as a mechanical engineer and worked for NASA, Martin Marietta and Lockheed Martin just to name a few. He asked every student in Mrs. McMullen's class what they wanted to be when they grow up and then showed a picture of himself in elementary school explaining that he had no idea what he wanted to be, but said he did like math and science when he was a kid.
The guest speakers helped inspire the students for this competition. Way to go!
