2026-2027 Bus Transportation Update

As we are more than a month into the school year, please make sure your son or daughter has his or her bus pass attached to his or her book bag on a daily basis. Students that do not have a bus pass are not allowed to utilize bus transportation and students are only allowed to ride the bus indicated on their bus pass.

Bus Registration and Fees:

Students in Grades K-6 who reside 2 miles or over from their assigned school are eligible for town-paid (free) bus transportation. This determination is mandated by the State of Massachusetts (Massachusetts General Law Chapter 71 Section 68). All other students in Grades K-12 will have the option to participate in the fee-based transportation program. All students who are NOT eligible for town-paid busing and do not reside in a β€œNo Bus Zone” will have the option to purchase a bus pass through the β€œFee-Based Transportation Program.”(Those NOT eligible include K-6 students living less than two miles from their assigned school and all students grades 7-12, regardless of distance.) If your student requires two separate buses, then you will be required to purchase a separate bus pass for the other stop. If you meet Federal low-income requirements for Free and Reduced Lunch, you can apply for a waiver of the fee; your transportation application must be completed and submitted, along with required income documentation. Incomplete information will NOT be processed. If you already applied for Free and Reduced Lunch for this school year, then it applies for next school year's Transportation.

If you have a question or concern, please do not attempt to speak with drivers at the bus stop. Doing so slows down the route and may leave the issue unaddressed as the driver's main focus is on the safe transportation of students. If you have a question or concern, please notify your student's school and it will be addressed with the appropriate personnel.

Bus Conduct Procedures

Students are required to be safe, respectful, and responsible on the bus. Students are not allowed to eat or drink anything while traveling on buses or vans.

Bus drivers or monitors will submit a written report when a student engages in disruptive or disrespectful behavior while riding to or from school on a Marshfield school bus. The following procedures would follow:

β€’ In all bus incidents, whenever there is any question concerning an incident or misbehavior, the case is carefully investigated so that each child is treated fairly and the facts of the situation are determined. Confidentiality is practiced in all dealings with bus situations.

β€’ A conduct report, completed by the bus driver, would go to the assistant principal, principal, or designee. The assistant principal, principal, or designee would speak to the student(s) involved explaining the danger of the conduct or incident. The child is given a consequence depending on the severity of the offense. Violations of appropriate bus conduct may result in discipline measures up to and including bus suspension.

β€’ The parent is notified regarding the incident.

Some buses have the capability to videotape. All such videotapes are the property of the Marshfield Public Schools and may be used for internal purposes or to provide police with evidence of a possible criminal act.

National School Bus Safety Week

Bus evacuation procedures will be conducted during National School Bus Safety Week (10/19-10/23).

Have a great long weekend!
