AMLA
Alabama Mathematics Leadership Alliance
Seasons Change
As we approach spring, I think of how everything is fresh and new. Just as spring has a season, we have a season with our roles in our professional/personal lives. The season for my current role with AMLA began in a hotel on the campus of the University of Alabama. Sheila Holt, Lisa McDonough, and I sat in the lobby planning the start of the Alabama Mathematics Leadership Alliance. My season for being president of this wonderful organization began.
What a season it has been! This organization quickly became one of the largest NCSM state affiliates due to the passion of mathematics leaders across the state. Many events were attended by our members. Some events were attended by national leaders and state representatives. This organization was starting to bloom and grow very quickly. Just as with everything else, the pandemic brought things to a stop. Within this season, we faced and overcame many challenges because of passionate mathematics leaders. As my season of presidency continued, we saw a different set of needs of mathematics leaders across the state.
It is time for a new season with AMLA. With a new season comes new leadership and new ideas. I cannot tell you how much each and everyone of you mean to me and this organization. We have grown together and most importantly created relationships that will continue to impact mathematics teaching and learning.
It has been an honor and privilege to be the president of this organization. As we move forward to a new season, I will work closely with the new president of AMLA. I know great things are planned for the organization and its members.
Sincerely,
Le Shell Smith
