News & Updates

Hello CELC Families,

I hope you had a relaxing weekend. I am so thankful to have Monday off with my family. I am looking forward to another great week with our students.

It is time to administer the second iReady assessment. Students will be completing the assessment in class over the next two weeks. Data will be analyzed to identify areas of student growth and need. Teachers will use the data to form instructional groups, write academic goals, and drive instruction.

Thank you to Ms. Childs, one of our amazing substitute teachers. She donated many hand knitted items for us to share with families. When weather permits, we will put the items on the bench by the office. Feel free to take what you would like. It is a gift from Ms. Childs.

Here is a list of the latest updates and news to keep you informed:

  • The schools are closed on Monday, January 16th for Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday.
  • It is going to be chilly this again this week. The forecast also shows that we might see some rain on Tuesday. Please make sure you send your student with a jacket. See the forecast below.
  • Did you know that AUSD students have tutoring and enrichment opportunities? See the flyer below for more information.
  • Dental (pink) and Health (green) forms are due by May 31st. If you need another copy, please let the office know.
  • Please send your student to school each day with a backpack, refillable water bottle, a healthy snack, and a lunch (unless they are getting a cafeteria lunch).
  • Please report any absences to your child's teacher and the office. Please let the office know the reason your child is out and what symptoms they have.

  • Before and after school care is available. Please contact our ESS Coordinator, Aimee Hatfield if you have any questions at ahatfield@alpineschools.net

  • For transportation questions and concerns, please visit AUSD's website at https://www.alpineschools.net/page/transportation or call the GUHSD Transportation Department.

MVLA News and Updates

We look forward to another magnificent week with our Mountain Lions! We hope you had great holiday break with friends and family.

Please remember that work completion is directly correlated to attendance. Incomplete or missing plan work will result in the team re-evaluating the student's program placement.

  • Plan 9 is due 1/19/23 and Plan 10 is due 2/2/23. Please make sure to turn the plans in completed and on time.
  • It is going to be chilly again this week. We also might see some rain on Tuesday. Please make sure you send your student with a jacket. See the forecast above.
  • Students may enter through either the CELC or SHES campus. Pick up/dismissal is at SHES.
  • School begins at 9:00 a.m. Dismissal is at 1:30 p.m. Please do not park in the bus or fire lane while picking up or dropping off your students.
  • Due to the locked gates installed between the campuses, please use the SHES entrance/exit on Mondays if your student comes to MVLA for additional support.
  • All AUSD 3rd through 8th grade students and teachers are reviewing test taking skills and sample test questions to help prepare for the CAASPP test in May.
  • All K-8th grade students will be completing iReady assessments over the next two weeks. Results will be printed and sent home. If you have any questions, or wish to meet with your child's teacher, please contact us.

Kindergarten Sight Words

Please help your kindergartener reach their sight word goal by reviewing them at home. They are also posted throughout campus and in the classrooms. Sadly, the rain and weather has destroyed most of our signs. We could use some help fixing them. If you are willing and interested in helping us, please let the office know.

Attendance Facts

Building a habit of good attendance will help students succeed academically, socially, and emotionally at school. Please limit absences that are not related to illness. If you know ahead of time that your child will be out for 3 or more days, please request an independent study contract to help keep them engaged in learning. Please take a moment to read the flyer below to learn more facts about attendance.

AUSD 2022-23 LCAP GOALS

The Governor's budget for education mandated that every school district in California needs to update its Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP). The Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) is a component of the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF). The LCAP is intended to be a three-year plan to improve student achievement by setting annual goals for the district in eight priority areas. Each of the priorities has established data requirements to track district progress improving student achievement. The LCAP requires Districts to gather input from students, teachers, parents, and community members to determine the goals, actions, and budget priorities for the District. Our District staff worked together with all of our stakeholder groups to gather input and craft the draft of our Local Control Accountability Plan. Here are AUSD's 2022-23 LCAP Goals:

Goal #1: Effective Instruction and Curriculum - Provide equitable access to high-quality classroom curriculum and instruction in an inclusive environment that promotes student success.

Goal #2: Safe and Respectful Environments - Ensure all school sites are safe and have healthy and welcoming climates for staff, students, and their families so that all students feel connected and are motivated to attend and ready to learn.

Goal #3: Equitable and Culturally Responsible Systems - Ensure systems and processes eliminate barriers to student success and are equitable and culturally responsive to the needs of our students and their families.

School Rules

CELC and MVLA have three school rules. Students will be learning behavior expectations that are aligned with being safe, responsible, and respectful. We practice Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). We understand that our students are still learning to problem solve and deal with school expectations. We believe in progressive discipline and restorative practices. Teachers and staff document concerns and communicate them with parents to form a partnership in your child's success. We love our Cubs and are looking forward to having a productive and positive year (H.A.P.P.Y.)!

Cubs in the Community

Mrs. Ripke will continue the Cubs in the Community tradition. Her goal is to connect with 100 Cubs (Future, Former, or Current) by the 100th day of school. Building relationships with our students is important to us! If you see Mrs. Ripke out in the community, encourage your student to say hi. Not only does it create an opportunity to connect, it also supports students' language and communication skills. Follow the sightings on FB and IG. Feel free to share our postings to spread the word. Mrs. Ripke looks out for future, current, and former Cubs! She is ready to meet the 2022-23 challenge. See her latest sighting below!
