September News and Notes
I hope everyone is enjoying the first few days of school. We are excited for what is to come this year. Please review the September Family Newsletter which highlights important information and upcoming events. Thank you for your ongoing support and have a wonderful school year!
WPES Back to School Night
The WPES Back to School Night will take place on Wednesday, September 9th from 6:30 - 8:00pm. We are running two sessions so parents with more than one child have the opportunity to visit teachers. One session can also be used for parents to meet special area teachers (encore, reading, special ed, etc.) Back to school night is for parents only as teachers have important information to share with you to ensure your child has a successful school year.
Please see the schedule below:
6:30pm - Brief Introduction in the gymnasium. Families may also visit informational tables.
7:00pm - session one
7:30pm - session two

Family Book Fair Night - 9/16
See the attached flyer for information about our book fair night.
Monthly Character Trait
Each month throughout the school year, we will be highlighting a character trait for focused conversation and celebration. Our monthly character trait for September will be Respect. At West Pottsgrove Elementary School, we will be defining respect as meaning you think good things about who a person is or how he/she acts. We treat others with kindness and accept them for who they are, even if they are different from you or you don't agree with them. You can have respect for others and you can have respect for yourself. Please talk with your child about respect and how they can demonstrate that characteristic in a school setting.
Information about the First Day Packet and PowerSchool Parent Portal
Dear Pottsgrove Families,
The First Day Packet is available for families to review and update their student's information for the upcoming school year.
Pottsgrove will utilize the same PowerSchool First Day Packet system as last year. The packet is not available through the Parent Portal. Instead, you should have received a separate email titled "Pottsgrove Annual First Day Packet SnapCode" from noreplyregistration@powerschool.com.
All families must complete the First Day Packet, even if no information has changed. This helps us ensure we have the most accurate contact, emergency, health and demographic information for every student.
What You Need to Do
- Check your inbox (and spam/junk folder) for the email from noreplyregistration@powerschool.com.
- Use the unique student code provided in the email.
- Review and update your student's information.
- Submit the completed packet.
Questions?
If you have questions about the First Day Packet, please email pgsdparentportal@pgsd.org.
Thank you for taking the time to complete this important process. We look forward to a great school year!

We are continuing to use the Class Dojo app to support school and family communications. Please contact your child's teacher if you need information on how to connect.
FALCON FRIDAY
The first Friday of each month will be a Falcon Friday Spirit Day at West Pottsgrove Elementary School. Please join us in wearing maroon or your favorite Falcon spirit wear to school on Friday, September 11th and Friday, October 2nd!
BOOK OF THE MONTH
Book of the Month is a school-wide initiative to build a learning community of readers and writers. Sharing one story every month helps unite our school community.
Each month, all of our children will hear the same book together. Children will discuss it in school with their teachers and classmates. Then, they will also read it again, and share their conversations with their families. The classroom book will go home with one child each night. It will rotate through the class until each child has had a chance to read and discuss the book with their family.
The books we will read each month will connect to our monthly character traits. Some of these include respect, responsibility, citizenship, and more. Books can lead to great discussions with our children. We LOVE reading books together!
Now that you know all about Book of the Month, don’t forget to ask your child about the new book every month and keep an eye out for it in your child’s backpack! Encourage your child to share their thoughts with you and your family.
