The Bulldog Bulletin
August 28, 2026
Dear Middleton Families,
We just wrapped up our very first week, and I am thrilled to report that it was a wonderful success. The classrooms were filled with laughter, curiosity, and a lot of positive energy as everyone settled into their new spaces. The first week is all about building connections and establishing routines, and I am so proud of how quickly the students adapted, supported one another, and jumped right into learning. Below are a few photos from recess.
We spent some time this week building our community by sharing stories, playing cooperative games, and collaborating to create our classroom expectations and rules. I visited many classrooms and reviewed our Bulldog Expectations for Success: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Ready! Looking ahead, please remember that our Back to School Night is next week, on September 3rd, for parents and guardians. This is a time to meet the teachers and hear all the wonderful things your child will learn this year.
If you are looking for a fun conversation starter at home this weekend, try asking your child what made them laugh at school this week, or ask them to describe one classroom rule they learned. Thank you so much for your partnership, support, and for preparing your children for such a great start. I already know this is going to be an incredible school year!
Warmly,
Dr. Danielle Moran, Principal
Our next newsletter will be sent home on September 11th.

School Safety Drills
The safety and well-being of our students, staff, and families is of the utmost importance. In order to maintain a safe environment for our children to study and learn, it is necessary that we practice our emergency and crisis response plan by having drills designed to practice our procedures. Below is a list of our safety drills this year. Please visit the Safety Drills & Preparedness website for more information.
Middleton Drills:
- Fire Drills: Practicing fire drills helps keep us safe in the event of a real emergency. We are required to have 3 fire evacuation drills per school year. (9/29 and 10/20/26)
- Bus Drill: Learning how to evacuate a school bus will help keep students safe in a situation that involves a bus or accident. (8/27/26)
- Evacuation Drill: Practicing an entire school evacuation is helpful in the case of dangerous conditions inside the building such as a gas leak. It's really important we are prepared to keep your children safe. (9/24/26)
- Lockdown Drill: In the extremely rare case of dangerous threat inside the building, we practice how to keep students safe. The state of Illinois requires this once per year. (10/15/26)
- Severe Weather Drill: Practicing for severe weather helps students be prepared in the case of a tornado or dangerous storm. The state of Illinois requires this once per year. (3/11/27)
- Contact your child's teacher or Mr. Dykes with questions.
