Mustang Families,

Here is some general information about Murchison:

  • We have three schoolwide expectations at Murchison that we often refer to as the 3 Be’s. They are: Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible. You will likely hear your child talk about these the first couple weeks of school!
  • School Hours are 7:35 a.m.-2:50 p.m. Students can start walking down to class at 7:20 a.m. Students are expected to be in their seats ready for instruction at 7:35 a.m.
  • Parents can drop students off in the car loop or park and walk them into the front foyer. Parents must walk their child to the crosswalk; there is no drop off in the parking lot unless you go through the car loop.
  • If you want your child to eat breakfast at school, the doors open at 7:05 a.m. for breakfast eaters. Breakfast is free for all PfISD students!
  • Lunch menus can be found at: https://pfisd.nutrislice.com/menu/murchison-elementary-school or by downloading the Nutrislice app. Go to this link to see if your family qualifies for free or reduced lunch: https://www.myschoolapps.com/Application
  • Lunch payments can be made through MySchoolBucks at www.myschoolbucks.com or through the mobile app. Cash and checks (made out to Pflugerville ISD) can also be sent to the school cafeteria.
  • All classroom deliveries will be made at 9:30 a.m. If your child forgot something at home and needs it delivered to their classroom, make sure to drop it off before 9:30 a.m.
  • When you visit Murchison, the door to the front office will be locked. To enter, you need to ring the bell on the window in the front foyer.
  • Next week is back to school! You should have received a call from your child's teacher this afternoon, introducing themselves and inviting you to Meet the Teacher. If you receive a call from a phone number that starts with 512-594-xxxx, that is a call coming from Pflugerville ISD. Murchison's phone number is 512-594-6000 if you want to go program that number in your phone!
  • We hope to see you at Meet the Teacher Night on Monday! The building will be open from 4:30-6:30 pm. This is a come-and-go event where you can see your child's classroom, meet their teacher, and drop off their school supplies. I will be in the main hallway so please make sure your child stops by to say "hi" to me and give me a hug! If you can't make it to Meet the Teacher, we look forward to seeing you on the first day of school on Wednesday!

As always, if you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out!

Parents may walk their child to class on Wednesday and Thursday, the 1st and 2nd day of school. After that, parents will say goodbye in the "hugs and kisses zone" in the front foyer of the building and allow students to walk to their classrooms independently. We will have extra staff in the hallways the first couple of weeks for students that need help finding their classroom.

Make plans to arrive to school on time! Students who need to eat breakfast at school may arrive at 7:05 a.m. The building will be locked until 7:05 a.m. so please make sure your students do not arrive before that.

All students will be released to their class at 7:20 a.m. If your child is not eating breakfast, they should arrive between 7:20 - 7:30.

The first bell rings at 7:30 a.m. and the tardy bell rings at 7:35 a.m. Students are expected to be in their seats ready for instruction at 7:35 a.m.

Dismissal Procedures Dismissal Procedures

Dismissal begins at 2:50 pm. The first couple weeks of school, we will start dismissal at 2:45 to help students get acclimated.

There are 4 ways students will be dismissed at Murchison. Please communicate with your child's teacher on how they will get home.

1. EDP: Paid after school care that is run by the district. Teachers will walk students to the cafeteria to be checked in by the EDP director. You would need to register for EDP in advance and receive confirmation that your child has been accepted into EDP.

2. Daycare: Teachers will walk students to the bus loop to wait with a designated staff member who will ensure they are picked up by the daycare you have arranged.

3. Walker/Biker: All walkers/bikers will be dismissed at 2:50 (2:45 for first week or two). If you would like to walk from home or park and pick up your child, they will dismiss with walker/bikers. Students will be brought out to a designated area in the back of the school. Teachers will wait with students being picked up by a parent. Signs will be posted where each grade level will line up. Please wait in the assigned area for your child. If your children are walking home without a parent, the oldest sibling will pick up the younger siblings and head home.

4. Car rider: At Murchison we use a website dismissal system. Every family has a designated number. Parents will drive through the car line with the school supplied car tag from this year to display. You will receive a paper tag you can attach to the back of the visor. If you do not have the car tag, you will be directed to park and go into the office to verify ID to pick up your child. Students will be staged inside with teachers until they are dismissed by the system. Please do not get out of your car at any time, just pull up to the next available spot and we will bring your child to your car. All students must enter the passenger side of the vehicle. When your child is in the car, please move forward so we can keep the line moving. The car line is a “drive through” line so you do not get out of your car and need to pull all the way forward to keep the line moving.

** Please keep your tag in your car even if your child is not normally a car rider. You will need it in the event that you change for the day (for example, inclement weather, appointment, etc.)

Once students leave the classroom/building, they will not be allowed to go back for water bottles, lunchboxes, jackets, etc. They are responsible for packing their items at the end of the day and can retrieve forgotten items the next day.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation to ensure all students are dismissed safely. Let’s have a great year!

If you need to pick your child up from school early or change their dismissal plan for the day, these changes must be made before 2:15 p.m. Please call the front office at 512-594-6000 for same-day changes, but also communicate these changes with your child's teacher in advance, if possible. For example, if you know your child needs to leave early for a doctor's appointment and the teacher knows about the change the day before, they can help to have your child packed and ready to go so you don't have to wait as long in the front office!

Annual student forms, which include the Student Verification and Student Health forms, are required for all students each year.

Please complete the forms through your Skyward Parent Portal. Be sure to log in using the Parent Portal, not the Student Portal. You can reach the portal by clicking “Login” at the link below.

Click to complete Annual Forms: www.pfisd.net/skyward

Please remember the following:

  • The forms are available for the parent/guardian listed as Parent 1 in Skyward. If you do not see the forms, please check with other parents/guardians.
  • If you move over the summer, you must contact your home campus regarding your change of address. If your address change results in an attendance zone change, you must complete the online forms for the new campus. Please submit an updated proof of residency document to the new campus. New online forms will be available once the address is up-to-date in Skyward.

If you need a Skyward Family Access account or have additional questions, email Skyward support at parentportal@pfisd.net or your campus registrar. In the email to the parent portal support, include your name, your student’s name, and your student’s school.

Our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) has already begun planning fun activities and opportunities for families that also help raise money for our school!

If you have been at MES, you have seen how quickly our lost-and-found fills up! Label your items easily using Mabel's Labels. These are great name labels for water bottles, hoodies, jackets, and more. Mabel’s Labels will donate 20% of each purchase to the PTO when you use the QR code on the flyer and search for Murchison Elementary PTO.

We also have two Kalahari options coming up! Our booking window for the September weekend closes 8/25. For each room booked using the QR code on the flyer, Kalahari will donate a portion back to the PTO. Kalahari is so fun and this a great price!
