A Trip Down Goshen Lane
Issue 36: May 1, 2026
Principal's Message
Hello, Families,
It's been a lively few days full of hard work, learning, and fun. Thank you to the families, staff, and volunteers who made last Friday's 🎉 School Dance Party 🎉 a success. A shout out to Mr. Walker for providing students with an opportunity to purchase some new favorite reads at this past week's Book Fair. Our first graders learned more about fossils from their guest speaker. Second graders learned about businesses on their field trip to the Anthony Thomas factory. Our third graders dug into local history with One Room Schoolhouse field trips. ELSS students saw animals up close at the Columbus Zoo. And our students and teachers wrapped up Ohio State Tests. Thank you to families for ensuring students are in attendance daily and arriving on time to take part.
We can't wait to celebrate more this upcoming week at the May 7th We Are the World night of culture and art as well as Teacher Appreciation Week. See below for more details about both!
Teachers continue to learn every day about how students are progressing through academic knowledge and skills. Classes will be taking MAP and Acadience testing over these next couple of weeks to show their strengths as they wrap up this school year and to give staff an idea of areas to support more as we begin the next school year.
Enjoy your three day weekend!

Teacher Appreciation Week
The PTA has worked hard to celebrate our amazing staff. You can see even more details in the PTA section of this newsletter. Thank you, PTA!
It's Here!
The time is here for We Are the World! Goshen Lane hosts this family event each year to celebrate cultures and art at our school. We hope you join us on Wednesday, May 6th from 5pm - 7pm for an evening full of family fun and learning! Bring some food to share and try some things from another culture! There will be an art show, small book fair, and a variety of activities. We hope to see you there!

5th graders are currently working on a project using one point perspective. First, students learned how the drawing technique has been used historically (use this link to look at the same work the students did!). Then the students practiced the drawing technique on different shapes. For the past couple weeks students have been using one point perspective to create a beautiful final project that includes black and white patterns and colored pencil shading.
4th graders are currently working on creating tessellations! Students first learned about the artist M.C. Escher and the long history of tessellating shapes. Next, students worked on cutting out and tracing a pre-made shape. Now, students are working on making their own shape, tracing the shape, and coloring it in. This is a hard concept and students are doing an AMAZING job.
3rd graders just finished up a paper quilt project. Students learned about how quilts have a long history all over the world. Next, students learned about how triangles can be cut into fractions and how they can be used to create many different designs. Students created six different copies of one design, cut them out, and pasted them together to create their own paper quilt.
2nd graders are working on big beetles! Students practiced using symmetry to draw their beetles. Next week students will use bright paint sticks and oil pastels to carefully color in their beetles. After coloring in their beetles students will use lines to create a minimalistic background.
1st graders and Kindergartners are currently working on learning about color mixing using primary and secondary colors. Students are using crayons to color in circles to make color mixing ladybugs. Students are doing a great job remembering the primary and secondary colors and the projects look great!
Questions to ask your student:
4th: What are the different ways a tessellation can move on a page?
K+1st: What color do red and yellow make? What colors are used to make purple?
Panorama Survey for Students in Grades 3, 4, and 5
This spring, we will once again join other Central Ohio districts in gathering social-emotional data from our students using a survey tool called Panorama. This continued effort allows us to better understand student perceptions on topics such as school climate, sense of belonging, cultural diversity, and social awareness, and to monitor growth over time.
The Panorama survey window will be April 27 through May 15, 2026. During this time, students in grades 3–12 will complete an online needs assessment that takes approximately 20 minutes. Once the data has been collected, we will use the results to guide staff conversations and refine how we support students’ social-emotional needs. The data will also help us evaluate the effectiveness of supports and programming implemented throughout the school year. We invite you to access the Panorama Demo to preview a sample survey.
Kindergarten Enrollment Update for 2026-2027
At Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools, we have traditionally used an August 1 cutoff for kindergarten eligibility.
Beginning with the 2026–2027 school year, new state legislation creates a single, statewide standard. Children must be five years old on or before the first day of instruction in the enrolling district to be eligible for kindergarten. For GJPS, this means children must be five years old on or before August 20, 2026 to be eligible for kindergarten registration.
Registration for new GJPS kindergarten students for the 2026-27 school year is open.
If you have an incoming Goshen Lane kindergartner in 2026-27, SAVE THE DATE for our Kindergarten Kickoff May 12, 6:00-7:00. We can't wait to welcome our newest Little Lions!
