Where Learning Comes First
Principal's Post
Dear Head Elementary Community,
I wanted to share a quick update on a few staffing and classroom adjustments we’ve made over the past few weeks.
As our enrollment numbers finalized this month, we had to make a few roster and schedule tweaks to ensure our resources are right where our students need them most:
Staffing Adjustments: Lower-than-expected enrollment meant closing one Kindergarten and one 1st-grade class (following district seniority policies). Conversely, our 4th-grade enrollment grew, so we added a new 4th-grade section to keep class sizes small.
Team Movements: Ms. Shariel George is moving from 1st grade to lead our new 4th-grade class! Ms. Haile Basden and Ms. Lauren Tundidor will be moving to support other schools in our cluster. We will miss them dearly and are so grateful for their impact here.
Map & Classroom Updates: To accommodate our new 4th-grade class, we shifted a few room assignments. This also allowed us to bring two classes out of the outdoor trailers and into the main building!
All families directly impacted by class or teacher changes have already been contacted.
While room numbers and rosters may look a tiny bit different, the same high-quality teaching, learning, and care are happening in every single classroom. Thank you for your flexibility and support as we set our school up for a fantastic year ahead!

Book Fair (September 3-11)
Easy for families to set up, easy for others to contribute. Book Fair eWallet lets your child shop independently and choose books they want to read. Our Book Fair begins Sept 3 and runs until Sept 11th. You will see that online shopping begins on Aug 27th running until Sept 11th. After the school’s Fair, any unspent funds remain in your Scholastic account for future Fairs. Thank you for your support!
Our Color Stables competition is off to a great start. Above is a screenshot of the points following the canned food drive and our first dress up day.
Monday, September 7th is Labor Day
This is a student and staff holiday.
Grandparent Luncheon
Calling all grandparents and special guests... we are having a special luncheon on the 10th and 11th of this month. Grades 1, 3, and 4 will welcome guests on September 10th, and grades K, 2, and 5 will do the same on September 11th. Lunch will take place during your child's normally scheduled time. Due to limited space, please only plan to attend on your child's assigned date. Ice cream will be on sale for $1 (cash only) on both days. We look forward to seeing you soon!
Dogwood Pizza Night
Ms. Jennings and Mr. Watson won the contest in August - who will it be in September? Mark your calendars now to help us support this wonderful business partner.

Digital Learning Day
Friday, September 18, is a Digital Learning Day (DLD) for all students.
On scheduled Digital Learning Days, students access lessons in Google Classroom through the Student Launchpad but will not have virtual class time with their teachers.
To ensure that students have a nutritious meal to fuel their learning, our bus drivers will be on the road and at every bus stop to deliver meals prepared by the School Nutrition Program staff. Families should expect buses to run their routes from approximately 10:45 a.m. to noon, beginning at the first stops on the route. These delivered meals are provided at no cost to families and are provided to anyone 18 years old and under.
