Our Mission
Millburn Middle School is committed to providing the knowledge, skills, and values students require in order to be successful learners and leaders in the 21st century. One of its core missions is to develop leadership qualities in its students through its exemplary Peer Leader program and a variety of character education and service-learning opportunities.
Principal's Message
Dear Families,
Students crossed the bridge over Old Short hills road (either figuratively or literally) and joined us to start the 2026-2027 school year.
What a wonderful first week of school! Middle school energy on Day 1 is a dynamic, exciting mix, and watching your children step through our doors this week was an absolute joy. We know that sending your kids off on the first days—especially with new lockers, new schedules, and those typical middle school jitters—takes a lot of trust. I wanted to share a quick reflection on how your students were supported and cared for throughout the week.
From the moment our doors opened, our staff was there with big smiles, warm greetings, and reassuring words to ease those morning nerves. As the first day unfolded, teachers, administrators and staff filled the hallways between every period, helping students navigate tricky locker combinations, find their classrooms, and move through the building with confidence. This continued into Day 2 and by Day 3 students are not needing our help and are navigating on their own. Beyond getting used to the new routines, our primary focus this week has been taking the time to connect with your children personally, ensuring that each student felt seen, safe, and valued.
Next week will bring a whole new set of adventures as everyone continues settling in, but after seeing the patience, humor, and heart filling our building this week, I can confidently assure you that your children are in fantastic hands.
Thank you for sharing your wonderful kids with us!
Sincerely,
Dr. Richardson
Building School Culture
At Millburn Middle School, we believe leadership isn't just about holding a title but it's about the everyday actions that lift our entire school community. We are excited to share our Peer Leader of the Week initiative, a weekly showcase designed to recognize students who make MMS a kinder, stronger, and more welcoming place.
What Is an Upstander? This program highlights "upstanders"-students who go out of their way to make a positive impact, especially those who quietly do the right thing without seeking the spotlight. We are looking for students who:
Show everyday kindness: Offering an encouraging word, a smile, or a thoughtful gesture to brighten someone's day.
Practice inclusion: Reaching out to peers to make sure no one feels left out in the hallways, at lunch, or in the classroom.
Lend a helping hand: Stepping up to assist classmates or teachers without needing to be asked.
Speak up: Standing up for others and doing the right thing, even when it isn't the easiest path.
Celebrating Unsung Heroes So much of what makes our school special happens in small, everyday moments. By showcasing a Peer Leader of the Week, we want to ensure that students who lead with character and heart know that their actions are seen, valued, and appreciated.
Looking forward to celebrating student leadership and building a school culture rooted in caring and respect.

6th Grade Transition Program
I was so happy this summer to share our plan to help our incoming 6th graders successfully transition to MMS. I am even happier to report out after seeing it in action! Our initial lessons and activities were specifically designed to build core executive functioning skills while fostering a strong community of learners.
These organization, time-management, and planning skills are integrated into the student experience. To support you at home, we have also created a parent companion program. This resource offers a window into what your child is learning, giving you insights to spark conversations and support them as they adapt to middle school expectations. The GoogleSite is active and linked below for you to check out.
Below is a screenshot of the website. You can see along the top you will have access to topics like Locker, Schedule (we help them read it), How to Email a Teacher with a Questions, How to use GoogleClassroom, Study Tips, Study Hall Etiquette and more.
Student Parent Handbook 2026-2027
Personal Internet Connected Devices
Millburn Township Public Schools would like to share an important update regarding student use of personal internet-enabled devices during the school day.
In accordance with a recently enacted law and the New Jersey Department of Education, all school districts are required to adopt policies that prohibit the use of personal internet-enabled devices, from "Bell-to-Bell”. This policy requires that all personal internet-enabled devices must be turned off and not in use for the duration of the school day; from the first bell to the last bell. Devices, including smart phones, smart watches, tablets, smart glasses and personal laptops are prohibited.
Please review our Parent Student Handbook and note that student devices at the middle school (consistent with prior years) are to be off and away before they enter the building and stay in that disposition until after they leave.
How to Use Go-Guardian Parent
Learn more about GoGuardian Parent!
With GoGuardian Parent, you’ll be able to:
Set internet controls during out-of-school hours.
Help guide your child’s online experience to better support their learning.
This app works alongside the classroom tools and internet filters we already use at Millburn Middle School, offering extra support to help students stay focused and safe online.
The directions are listed in this document to guide you through the process.
Updated Attendance Policy
The Attendance Policy was revised and Board of Education approved on 7/20/2026. In the Fall, Middle Middle School will make several changes in order to adhere to the new policy. If you would like to read more, please check out Millburn Policy - P5200 and Regulation R5200.
A best practice is to make sure your child arrives at school by 7:45am each day. This gives them time to enter the building, visit their locker and arrive to class without the added stress and time pressure of being late. This is one way you can ensure your child starts off their day on the right foot and we will do our best to take it from there.
Please visit the link below to view an important letter on early dismissal and dropping off items: The highlights are that we want to minimize disruptions to the school day in anyway possible and we need your help to do that.
Nurse's Notes
Hello parents! I hope you and your families have had a restful and fun summer!
If your child has allergies, asthma, seizures, diabetes, or any other medical condition that may require care or support at school, please complete and return the appropriate health forms for the 2026–2027 school year. All forms must be updated yearly, so if you submitted paperwork last year, it must be updated by the doctor for this year.
Please also send in all emergency medications (such as EpiPens, inhalers, seizure medications, or glucagon) as soon as possible so we can ensure your child’s safety and be prepared for any emergency. Please ensure that medications are not expired before sending them to school.
Thank you for your prompt attention and cooperation!
