Dragon Blast
August 2024
Welcome back, Dragons! We’re back in the swing of things as we continue mid-year assessments and reviewing our schoolwide expectations of Respect, Responsibility, and Safety. Next week, we’ll kick off our 4th Annual Cereal Drive supporting the Chester County Food Bank. Cereal and oatmeal are especially needed after the holidays. Can we beat last year’s total? Our 5th grade Community Connections students will honor MLK Jr. Day through service by sorting donations and creating bookmarks for our school. Thank you in advance for your support!

Snow Days & FIDs
WCASD has one traditional snow day built into the 2025–26 calendar, and we will use that day first.
Any additional closures will shift to FIDs, which allow learning to continue remotely.
A Child’s Place follows WCASD’s winter weather status for delays, dismissals, and closures.
Thank you for your flexibility and partnership as we prepare for the winter season!

Lunch Volunteers
Volunteers will sign-in at the main office prior to reporting to lunch with their physical driver's license. Lunch volunteers will be issued a Visitors Badge to be worn throughout the visit.
During lunch, volunteers agree to the following:
- They will not bring special treats for their student while volunteering; including birthday related items (balloons, signs, etc).
- They will not contact other families regarding issues seen at lunch; the school will handle this.
- They will not visit other children or parts of the school.
All volunteers must have up-to-date clearances on file with the school district. Clearances are valid for five years. Once completed, clearances can be sent to Mrs. Polito. See below for clearance information.

Community Events
The West Chester Area School District Community Bulletin Board
There are some outside companies who rent our space after school that are NOT sanctioned or sponsored by Mary C. Howse or the WCASD district. You can find their after school offerings on the WCASD Community Bulletin Board. Some examples are Science Club and Young Rembrandts. Other community events are posted on the community bulletin board as well.
