New Year, New Goals!
Welcome back, AE! I hope you had a restful and joyful winter break filled with time to recharge and connect with loved ones. We are excited to begin this next chapter of the school year together and look forward to all that our students will accomplish.
As we return, our school-wide focus will be on collaboration, goal setting, and personal growth. This is a wonderful time for students to reflect on where they are, think about where and how they want to grow, and identify steps they can take to move forward—academically, socially, and emotionally.
Over the coming weeks, I will be visiting each classroom to teach lessons centered on goal setting, personal growth, and maintaining a growth mindset. Students will have the opportunity to set an academic goal and discuss action steps they can take to work toward that goal, while also learning how effort, perseverance, and learning from mistakes help us grow.
We encourage families to continue these conversations at home. Please take time to ask your child about the goal they set and the action steps they identified. Your support and encouragement play an important role in helping students stay motivated and confident as they work toward their goals.
Thank you for your continued partnership. We are looking forward to a positive, productive, and growth-filled start to the new year!
Kind regards,
Becky Hoover

A-C - Where Everyone Belongs
Take a moment to watch our featured video, “A-C – Where Everyone Belongs.”
This video highlights the importance of community at A-C—where every student is known, valued, and supported. Together, we create a welcoming environment where everyone feels at home and has the opportunity to grow.
Act 44 - Weapon Notification Signed Into Law
Governor Shapiro recently signed into law Act 44 of 2025, which creates a new section of the School Code titled “Parental and Employee Notification of Weapon Incidents.” This new law takes effect on January 6, 2026. The law requires all school districts to notify parents, guardians, and school employees of any incident involving the possession of a weapon on school property, in school transportation, or at school-sponsored activities. Under the new law, unless the circumstances of the incident necessitate otherwise, notification to parents, guardians, and employees must be made within twenty-four (24) hours of the incident.
If the incident occurs at a school building, the District will notify the parents or guardians of students enrolled in that building. If the incident occurs at a school-sponsored activity or on school transportation, the District will notify the relevant population of parents, guardians, and school employees. The District will utilize its SchoolMessenger system to deliver the required notices. Due to state and federal confidentiality laws, these notifications will not disclose personally identifiable information about students. Instead, they will provide very basic information regarding the date and location of a reported incident involving a weapon.
In some ways, this new law does not represent a major change, as the District would notify families of incidents of this nature. At times, however, depending on the situation, we have used our discretion when responding to situations involving look-alike items (such as toys) or tools not intended to be used as weapons (such as multi-tools or pocketknives inadvertently left in a backpack or article of clothing). The new law may result in more frequent notifications, even in cases that do not pose an active safety threat. This does not mean there is any increased danger in schools; it simply means we are now required to send more frequent notices than we have in the past. Again, an increase in notifications should not be interpreted as a reflection on the safety of our schools.
Please be assured that the District will continue to work closely with our law enforcement partners, threat assessment teams, and safety/security personnel. The District has, and will continue to have a very robust safety/security infrastructure. The well-being of our students and staff remains our highest priority.
Dutchmen Champion Experience Survey
We would like our students' feedback to continue to build our Dutchmen Champion positive behavior program. Below, you will find a survey to provide input on increasing options for experiences that can be purchased with Dutchmen Dollars from our school store. Each student may complete the survey one time. Students will also be provided opportunities to complete the survey from school once they return from break. Thanks for your help!

Pathways for Effective Communication
Directing questions and/or concerns to the appropriate person(s) encourages greater collaboration and streamlines the process of answering questions, alleviating concerns, and ensuring that we are all “on the same page”.
