School Threats School Threats

User uploaded image
zoom_out_map

We have recently experienced an increase in incidents involving students making threats to harm staff members, other students, or our school, including threats involving weapons. We take all threats seriously and are committed to maintaining a safe environment for every student and staff member.

When a threat is made, the school is required to follow established safety protocols and complete extensive documentation, including threat assessments when appropriate. Depending on the nature and severity of the threat, law enforcement may also be contacted.

Please take a few moments to have a conversation with your child about the seriousness of making threats. Help them understand that threats involving harm to others, weapons, or the school are not acceptable and can have serious consequences, even when a student claims they were joking or did not intend to act on the threat.

We recognize the importance of teaching students how to express frustration, resolve conflicts, and communicate their feelings appropriately. Your partnership in reinforcing these expectations at home is essential to helping us maintain a safe and supportive school community.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership as we work together to keep Brick Elementary safe for everyone.

Attendance Matters Attendance Matters

Dear Brick Families,

Regular attendance and arriving at school on time are essential to your child’s academic, social, and emotional success. We appreciate your partnership in helping every Brickster start the day ready to learn!

Please remember that students need to be at school and ready to learn by 9:05 AM each day. Classrooms begin morning meetings and/or social-emotional learning promptly at 9:10 AM. These opportunities for relationship building, community building, and developing social skills are an important part of a successful school experience.

Core academic instruction at Brick begins promptly at 9:30 AM.

When students arrive late, they miss valuable learning opportunities, which can lead to:

  • Gaps in understanding new material

  • Increased stress or anxiety as they try to catch up

  • Disruptions to their daily routine and classroom flow

  • Missed opportunities to build relationships and connect with classmates

Please keep the following attendance guidelines in mind:

  • After 9:20 AM: Students will be marked tardy.

  • After 10:05 AM: Students will be marked absent for a half-day AM.

  • Pickups before 3:20 PM: Students will be marked absent for a half-day PM.

Introducing Our Grade-Level Attendance Competition!

We are excited to announce that Brick Elementary will be starting a monthly grade-level attendance competition! Each month, we will celebrate the grade level with the highest percentage of students in attendance. The winning grade level will earn a spirit day of their choosing!

We can't wait to see which grade level will rise to the challenge! Every school day counts, and every Brickster makes a difference. Help your child's grade level reach the top by making regular attendance a priority.

Being on time helps students feel connected, prepared, and confident as they begin their school day. Every minute counts, and we want each Brickster to have the best possible opportunity to learn and grow.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership in making sure your child arrives at school on time and ready to engage in learning each day!

Let's show our Brick pride and make every day count! Together, we are Brick!

🎨 Staff Spotlight: Mr. Boswell 🎨 Staff Spotlight: Mr. Boswell

This week, we are excited to shine the spotlight on Mr. Boswell, our Art Teacher!

Mr. Boswell has been a valued member of the Brick Elementary team for the past three years, bringing creativity, imagination, and a love of art to our students. His classroom provides students with an opportunity to explore their creativity, express themselves, and experience the joy of creating something of their own.

Art is an important part of a well-rounded education, and Mr. Boswell helps our students discover that there is no one right way to be creative. Whether they are experimenting with new techniques, learning about artists, or creating their own masterpieces, students have the opportunity to grow their confidence while having fun.

We are so grateful to have Mr. Boswell as part of our Brick family. Thank you, Mr. Boswell, for three wonderful years of helping our students create, imagine, and express themselves through art! 🎨

🚗 Arrival & Dismissal Reminders 🚗 Arrival & Dismissal Reminders

As we work together to keep arrival and dismissal safe and efficient for everyone, please keep the following reminders in mind:

Morning Arrival

  • Please do not enter the bus loop before 9:30 a.m. We often still have buses unloading students during this time, and we need to keep the loop clear and safe for our buses and students.
  • When dropping off your student, please do not park in the Facilities building parking area, which is the building located behind Brick Elementary. Please use the designated parking areas instead.

Afternoon Dismissal

  • If your student’s transportation plans are changing, please call the office BEFORE 3:30 p.m. We have been receiving many transportation-change calls after 3:30, and at that point, we cannot guarantee that the change can be communicated and made in time for dismissal.
  • If you are picking up your student, please be especially cautious and drive slowly through the parking lot. Classes must cross the parking lot to get to the buses, particularly along the side of the building near the playground.
  • We have noticed some vehicles traveling through the parking lot without slowing down or watching carefully for students. This is a significant safety concern.

🛑 Please Be Mindful and Drive Slowly!

Our students are moving across the parking lot during dismissal, and we need everyone to do their part to keep them safe. Please slow down, stay alert, and watch carefully for students and staff. Thank you for helping us make arrival and dismissal safe for all of our Bricksters!

Social, Academic, and Emotional Behavior Risk Screener Social, Academic, and Emotional Behavior Risk Screener

User uploaded image
zoom_out_map

As part of Lincoln Consolidated Schools' Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), we review several kinds of information to understand how students are doing and where support may be helpful. This year two screeners, SAEBRS and mySAEBRS, will be included in that regular process.

They support our districtwide focus on belonging and engagement.

SAEBRS stands for Social, Academic, and Emotional Behavior Risk Screener. It is a brief, research-based screening tool that looks at behaviors connected to learning, relationships, and emotional well-being at school. SAEBRS will be completed for all students by a teacher or other designated school professional.

mySAEBRS is the student version. Students in grades 2-12 will complete this brief self-report about their social, academic, and emotional behaviors.

This process will take place twice during the school year, in October and February. School teams will consider the results alongside other school information. The results may help teams notice patterns, review supports available to all students, and decide whether a student's needs warrant a closer look. A screening result is not a diagnosis and will not, by itself, determine services, interventions, or placement.

If you do not want your child included in this district screening, please complete the Opt-Out Form. Families only need to submit the form if they are opting out.

If you have questions about the screening process, please contact Evan Rokicki, district

coordinator for Social-Emotional Learning at rokickie@lincolnk12.org.
