On Monday, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a leader who taught us the importance of kindness, fairness, courage, and standing up for what is right. At school, students will learn age-appropriate lessons about Dr. King’s message of helping others, treating everyone with respect, and making our community a better place. We encourage families to continue these conversations at home by sharing ways we can show kindness and respect in our daily lives.

Cold Weather is Here!
As the days get colder and the crisp air of January settles in, we want to remind all students to dress appropriately for the weather. Coats, scarves, mittens, and hats help keep our students cozy and comfortable while enjoying recess, walking to and from school or from the bus, and participating in outdoor activities.
Please make sure your child comes to school prepared for chilly mornings and windy afternoons. Dressing warmly not only helps keep them healthy, but it also ensures they can fully enjoy all the fun and learning each day brings!
Thank you for helping us keep our students warm, safe, and ready to learn!
PTCG News
Thank you so much to all the parents that joined us for our PTCG meeting this past week! We appreciate you taking the time out of your busy schedule to hear about all the activities and events coming up for our dolphins. Another big thank you to all the families that donated items to restock the lounge for our beloved teachers and staff for the New Year. We appreciate your support!
Our Coin Wars kicked off this week with a magnificent start! Kiddos are bringing in coins left and right to fill up their classroom jars with positive points from their coins and adding some dollar bills to other classroom jars to sabotage them! Our students are keeping a close eye on any classroom creeping up the leaderboard and quickly unite to load those jars with all the bills imaginable!! You can hear the evil laughter emerging from the hallway all throughout the day!! Coin Wars will wrap up next week with the final day to bring in any coins or cash on FRIDAY! The winning classroom will earn a visit from the Dolphin Delights cart filled up with snacks, treats, and drinks galore for all to enjoy! Thank you so much for making this event a successful fun experience for everyone!
Please save the date for our next Chuck E Cheese fundraiser on Friday, January 23rd from 4:00-9:00pm. The mascot, Chuck E., will be visiting DeKeyser on Friday to get the kiddos excited for a fun Friday night out! Chuck E. Cheese donates 25% back of all proceeds to DeKeyser if you mention our school when you arrive. Thank you for supporting PTCG in such an exciting way!
Lastly, families that are registered for our Daddy Daughter Dance on January 30th will be receiving an email next week with lots of information about the Shelby Banquet Center venue, how to order a corsage for your special little lady, what to expect, a layout of the tables and event space, and a link to request songs from DJ Super Dave. We have been working hard to get all the decorations, table centerpieces, craft tables, and so much more ready for a magical night at our Life of a Snow Girl event! We can't wait for the big night!

We Love Our Volunteers and Visitors!
We are asking for your support to help keep our students safe. If you plan to volunteer in our classrooms, work directly with a student and/or chaperone a field trip, etc. you will need to have a volunteer background check on file. We greatly appreciate the involvement of our families and the difference you make at DeKeyser Elementary. Thank you for your partnership with this extra step that will improve safety in our school.
A few reminders:
- Please have all required documentation ready before you begin.
- The application must be completed in one sitting.
- One application can be used for multiple schools
- Once approved, you will be cleared to volunteer in UCS schools
