Weekly Monday Message from Ms. Grace
Dear La Escuela Fratney Families,
This is Ms. Grace with your weekly Monday Message.
This Tuesday there will be a virtual meeting about knowing your rights. Please reach out to me if you need help signing up or logging on to the virtual meeting on Tuesday.
We want to thank Amanda, our staff, and all families who have volunteered or donated to support others in our community. If your family is in need of additional resources or assistance, please reach out to our school social worker, Ms. Emily, at _______.
This Wednesday, we’ll have our School Engagement Council meeting at 5:00 p.m. in the library—all families are welcome to join.
Our second-grade students will take the CogAT assessment this week. Please ensure your student is well rested and in school every day on time to take the tests.
Thursday is World Kindness Day! We’re sharing a few family-friendly resources to celebrate. How can you and your child show kindness to others this week?
Finally, we are grateful for our students and families. Thank you for helping your child arrive on time every day so we can focus on teaching and learning. We’re also holding another attendance competition this month—winning classes will get to choose from several fun incentives.
Every day counts—see you in class!
Warmly,
Ms. Grace
Finalmente, agradecemos a nuestros alumnos y familias.
Due to interest in a family movie night and fundraising for additional family events, we are proposing a family movie night in December that would be free for all students and families but that parents could donate concessions to sell. The proceeds from this upcoming movie night would go to the PTO account to support food for upcoming family and student events since school budgets are never allowed to purchase food for family meetings, students, etc. Please answer this brief survey to show interest in a family movie night in December and fundraising for family and student events in the future. Our next family meeting will be Wednesday, November 19th at 5 pm. If you are interested in helping plan and organize this or other upcoming family events please join us.
Give Ms. Grace and school staff feedback with this 3 question survey here

Preview District Calendar Options 2027-28
Dear MPS Families and Staff,
Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) is working to create 2026-27 and 2027-28 calendars that drive academic achievement, support safe and welcoming schools, and help us operate effectively.
We previously asked for your help to determine the calendar that would best meet our goals for the next two years. We paused that survey based on early feedback while we made some key changes to the proposed calendars. Thank you for your flexibility and understanding.
The survey now is ready for your input and will remain open until November 15 at 5:00 p.m.
MPS staff completing the survey will need to log in with their MPS credentials (username and password) to access the survey here.
Parents/guardians completing the survey should use their child’s seven-digit student ID number to access the survey here.
As a reminder of how the district developed the calendar options: A team of employees from multiple departments created the draft calendars by using the following criteria:
Compliance: Meet all state instructional hour requirements and contractual obligations (191 teacher workdays).
Instructional Focus: Maximize uninterrupted learning time.
Wellness Breaks: Align breaks with national holidays; no school on election days. Include two (2) semester breaks.
Staff Development: Include dedicated professional development time to strengthen teacher effectiveness.
Thank you in advance for taking the time to share your feedback by November 15!
Sincerely,
Michael Harris
Chief of Staff

MPS visitor policies are designed to keep students and staff safe
Wednesday, September 24, 2025
Every day, MPS staff are working to make schools safe and positive for students and staff. Respect is the key to a positive school environment inside MPS buildings and on school grounds. When students, families, and staff show respect for one another, teaching and learning can take place and our schools can be successful. We encourage everyone to show respect by:
Remaining calm
Using kind language
Listening to and following staff instructions
Working toward solutions together
Visitor Policy and Procedures
The safety of students and staff is a top priority in the district. Because we welcome families in schools, we want everyone to understand the procedures for visiting MPS buildings. This will help everyone know what to expect and make visits go more smoothly.
All visitors must:
Schedule any meetings with school staff in advance.
Visitors are limited to TWO per student for meetings, conferences, and classroom visits unless approved by the building administrator or designee.
Use the designated main entrance.
Report to the office/security desk.
Show a form of identification. Everyone age 14 and older must present a school ID, driver license, or other photo ID.
Sign in and out on the MPS Visitor Record.
Be escorted to and from the requested location.
Wear/display the MPS Visitor Pass at all times while in the school.
Return the Visitor Pass to the office/security desk and sign out.
Student Behavior Concerns
To protect our students, if anyone has a concern about student behavior, the behavior must be reported to a staff member and/or the child’s teacher or further action. No one should attempt to confront, discipline, or punish another parent or guardian’s child. The district has many procedures in place along with a Student Code of Conduct that describes disciplinary actions. Misbehavior and violations of the code of conduct will be handled according to district processes in place. The Student Code of Conduct can be found in the Parent/Student Handbook on Rights, Responsibilities, and Discipline at mpsmke.com/rights.
We appreciate everyone’s cooperation to keep our schools safe.
Concerned About A possible bullying incident? Complete this form
There will be one calendar for the whole district again this year. Please review this calendar before making plans for trips or vacations. Students must be in school 95% of the time or more which means they can only miss 1 day a month the whole school year. Students who miss more than 10 days of school a year fall behind academically and socially. Make a plan now to be in school every day on time.
