Important Attendance Information for Students & Families Important Attendance Information for Students & Families

Attendance Matters- Being on Time Matters

Being on time to school and to every class is an important part of student success. We appreciate our parents and guardians partnering with us to help students arrive on time and ready to learn.

Arriving Late to School

If a student arrives late to school, they must enter through the front doors of the high school and check in with the monitor outside the high school main office.

New this Year: Reporting a Tardy

When calling or sending a note to report that your student will be late to school, a reason for the tardiness must be provided. Simply notifying the school that a student is “running late” does not automatically make the tardy excused.

Tardies will be excused when the reason meets a Board-approved excuse or when circumstances are determined by administration to constitute sufficient cause. Examples may include:

  • Severe weather conditions, as determined by administration

  • Appearance in court with appropriate documentation

  • An emergency or other circumstances determined by administration to be sufficient cause

A parent/guardian call or note must be received by the end of the school day for an excused tardy to be considered.

What if the Tardy is not excused?

We recognize that students may occasionally be late for reasons that do not qualify as excused. In those situations, the tardy will remain unexcused and will count toward the student's tardy consequences.

However, students will still be permitted to make up academic work missed because of the tardiness. Our goal is to hold students accountable for being on time without allowing a disciplinary consequence to unnecessarily impact their academic progress.

The high school and middle school tardy policy begins on the Tuesday following Labor Day weekend, and tardy totals reset at the beginning of each quarter.

Thank you for helping us reinforce an important expectation: being at school matters, and being on time matters too.
