Welcome Back!

We are beyond excited to start this school year and cannot wait to meet and greet your students tomorrow! I wanted to keep this welcome message short and sweet, but I also want our team to be in a position to support our students and our mission. This team includes you!!!

With that, we wanted to share with our community partners that we will be focusing our support for student excellence around our SOONS Expectations!

  • SHOW RESPECT
  • OWN YOUR ACTIONS
  • OVERCOME CHALLENGES
  • NEVER STOP LEARNING
  • SERVE OTHERS

AREAS OF EMPHASIS (As determined by Instructional Leadership Team with input from our community partners) will be the following:

  • Building Relationships with Students and Community Partners
    • This is the starting point for all of us in order to support students in their journey through Mayfair Middle and High School!
  • Academic and Social Support for ALL
    • Building and refining a system of support for students which focusses on a proactive approach and giving students the skills and support to "overcome challenges."
    • We also want our students and families to know who and where to go for support when they need it.
  • Improvement Attendance/Tardies
    • Academic success starts and ends with attendance. Be here and be ON TIME!
    • Implementation of a Tiered and Team Approach to respond to students who are not meeting expectations and the support to improve in this critical area!
  • Dress Code Standards
    • Preparing our students to be college and career ready
    • Working with our students to understand that different settings and environments call for them to "show respect" and meet expectations.
  • Skateboards, Bikes, Scooters
    • All transportation (bikes, skateboards and scooters) must be stored safely on campus in one of three locations:
    1. Bike and Skateboard Racks (Near Allington Street) - Please provide your own lock.
    2. In a teacher's classroom (with permission and it must remain there for the entire school day)
    3. An Office on campus (with approval from the administrator who oversees that office)
  • Ball and Play on Campus
    • This is a safety issue. We will explore options and create opportunities for this as the year progresses.
    • Footballs, tennis balls, volleyballs, etc will be confiscated from students until the end of the day on the first infraction and parent pick-up will be required with subsequent and repeat infractions.
  • Quads during Lunches
    • We are working to maintain the academic and learning environment during our lunch periods.
    • Students will not be allowed to be in the quads during lunch unless they are working to complete school business or meet with an adult on campus during their lunches.

We will be visiting our students starting Friday to review this information. We will share that presentation with you so that we are all on the same page. We look forward to this partnership!

STEAM Building Update

As you can see, our STEAM building has come a long way. While we were originally hoping to start our fall semester in the new building, the anticipated completion date has been shifted to October 2022. This is due to supply chain issue causing the delay of materials needed to complete the building. We are collaboratively working with the contractor, our site and district colleagues and look to move forward as soon as we are ready to move in. In the meantime, we continue to prepare for the start of the new year and will adjust and update you all accordingly as more information becomes available.
