🏫 School Focus Areas 🏫 School Focus Areas

This month, Lockwood Elementary is focusing on the following priorities:

  • Academic expectations: Supporting strong instruction, engagement, and critical thinking; parents can check PowerSchool for students' grades and missing assignments

  • Student Well-Being: Reinforcing positive behavior and social-emotional learning

  • Attendance: Encouraging daily attendance and on-time arrival, please have students to school by 7:45am if they are eating breakfast.

  • Bus behavior: If your student rides the bus, please remind them of appropriate bus expectations. Classroom behavior (sitting in seat, quiet talking, hands and feet to yourself) is appropriate bus behavior.

  • Parent communication: We strive to connect with parents across many platforms. Please check the school website, the Lockwood Schools app, social media, and your child's bag for information from school.

Dear Lockwood Elementary Families,

I can't believe we are already looking at November's events and activities. We had a great first quarter, and second quarter has had a smooth beginning. We also celebrated our first AR reward trip, and students had a great time going to the movies in Lamar. We can't wait for our quarter 2 AR trip, which will be in January.

  1. As we continue into 2nd quarter, remind students about the AR rewards and encourage students to continue to read, concentrating on comprehension when they take AR tests.

  2. Moving into 2nd quarter brings increased rigor and higher expectations for student work. Students may have homework and will be asked to complete some assignments independently. If you have any questions about how to support students, please communicate with your child's teacher.

  3. The late work policy is stated in the student handbook. Students have a week to turn in work after the assigned due date. After that week, assignments are worth 60% credit. Late work will be marked as a zero in PowerSchool until the work is turned in. Please check grades with your students, encourage them to complete their work, and turn it in on time.

  4. Parents, continue to monitor if your student is bringing toys from home to school. We are seeing an increase in toys at school, and these create a distraction for students. Please ensure toys remain at home.

  5. Communication continues to be a top priority for us this year. If you have any questions, please contact the office, and we will work with you to get you whatever information you need. As a reminder, if you email a teacher or leave them a phone message, teachers will return your email or call within 24 hours on school days.

  6. The elementary building is a closed campus. If you need to speak with a teacher or myself, please make an appointment ahead of time.

Thank you for your partnership and for everything you do to support our students each day.

Warmly,
Jana Parrigon, Lockwood Elementary Principal
