PS 199Q Newsletter October 2, 2023

Welcome Back! Welcome Back!

A Message from Mr. Daliposki!

Happy October! It's hard to believe that we've already made it through our first month of school. September always seems to fly by with all the excitement of returning to school, meeting new classmates, and embarking on new adventures. I can't wait to see what this month has in store for us, with all the special events coming up.

I understand that there may be some questions you have regarding the NYC DOE platforms, student email accounts, logins, and NYCSA. I'm here to help and I hope I can provide some clarity for you. Just to clarify, TeachHub and NYCSA are two different portals. TeachHub requires the student email, while NYCSA is only accessible through the legal guardian/parents email. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask Ms. Becco.

Week Ahead at PS 199Q

1) Wednesday, October 4, 2023 - Picture Day!

2) Monday, October 9, 2023 - Italian Heritage / Indigenous Peoples' Day - school closed.

3) Thursday, October 19, 2023 - PTA Movie Night

A Message from Ms. Becco

Good morning, Falcon Families,

As the weather begins to change, please remember to dress your children appropriately for the temperature. Here are some school updates: We are still selling World Finest Chocolates. Cases are available for $60, and we are hoping to begin selling them by the bars.

Last night was the first of our Western Queens Parenting Workshops. The topic was "Dealing with Disobedience". Unfortunately , we had some problem with the Zoom link and everyone was not able to get on. Not even me. We will make sure that we have the correct link and that it is working correctly. The next one is scheduled for Tuesday and it will be conducted in English. Please check the school's website for the link.

Middle School Applications

Grade 5 Parents, Middle School Application are now due. There are several of you , who have not submitted an application. Unfortunately, things have changed. Safety Guideline from Mr. Daliposki

October 12,2023

Dear Families,

Our top priority is the safety and well-being of every student and staff member in our school community. As the conflict in the Middle East continues to escalate and we are seeing increased news coverage of social media posts promoting violence, I am writing to provide you with information on how we are monitoring the events and to share some resources that may be helpful for you in discussion with your children.

First, please be reassured that the New York City Police Department (NYPD) actively monitors social media sites and threats of violence. We remain in constant communication with NYPD, and currently, there are no specific threats against our schools.

In times of great upheaval and uncertainty, it is easy for fear and rumors to flourish. It is important that students are equipped with the tools they need to discern fact from fiction. We encourage you to visit schools.nyc.gov/digitalcitizenship for more information on how to support your child in building their skills in media literacy and safe online behaviors.

We are committed to always providing a safe and inclusive learning environment for our students. Additional resources supporting thoughtful instruction and students’ mental health in the face of disturbing current events can be found at schools.nyc.gov/currentevents.

I urge all members of our school community to explore these resources, lean on one another, and continue to engage in open dialogue. Together, we can navigate these challenging times.

Sincerely,

Kujtim Daliposki

Principal

Resetting your child's Google password tutorial

Resetting your child’s Google Classroom Email Password.

Go to the Department of Education website: schools.nyc.gov

Scroll down to the Technology for Families section and click onto STUDENT tab.

You will then click onto the menu option: Resetting your child’s password and then under that will be the instructions to create a pin for the account.

You will need your child’s osis number and you can get that from your child’s teacher or even the main office. Ms. Becco can give it to you also, just email her at sbecco@schools.nyc.gov.

After you’ve changed the password and created a pin, you can go back to the homepage and click onto teachhub on the top right side of the toolbar. You may or may not have to sign on again.

Remember the username is everything before the @ symbol in the email address and the password is case sensitive.

Once you get into the teachhub, you may not see much, and if that is the case, you should then click on the heading that includes your child’s grade, next to the Welcome.

You will then see a host of apps that your child may need access to, for example: Google Classroom, Zoom, Google Meet, Gmail, etc.
