PBiS and PAWS
With one month of school remaining, I thought it would be a good time to highlight just how many amazing moments have been celebrated through PAWS this year.
As of today, teachers have written 4,590 PAWS!
On average, students have earned 24 PAWS this year school year.
That's almost FOUR motorcycle rides per student!!
Ask your child how many times they have been able to ride the motorcycles in PE to see where they are!

5 Ways To Prevent Summer Slide
Summer break is for swimming, lazy lake days, ice cream sandwiches, and running through sprinklers - but it’s also an important time to prevent summer learning loss. Research shows that on average, 2 months of reading skills are lost, 2.6 months of math skills are lost and 6 weeks in the Fall are spent re-learning old material. It is so important that children continue to practice skills that they learned throughout the school year, particularly math and reading, over the summer months to prevent summer slide.
Here are 5 tips to help prevent it
1. Make TIME for learning: Set aside time for your child to read and practice math skills each day during the summer break – 15 to 30 minutes per day is all it takes. I would recommend at least 15 minutes for reading and 15 minutes for math. 😊
2. Improve Reading Comprehension: Difficulty with reading and comprehension can be improved through regular practice. Sometimes, low reading comprehension comes from kids not being interested in what he or she is reading. So when picking books, it’s important to make sure your child is excited by the content. If you need help finding the right reading material visit our library! 📚
3. Encourage Creative Writing: Encourage all types of writing to help your child find their voice from poems to cartoons. If your child is experiencing writer’s block you can help by introducing new and exciting topics and ideas. Journal writing can start from a young age and will encourage your child to write freely, creating a love for expression and the written word. 📝
4. Develop Math Skills: Working on just three to four math problems per day during the summer can prevent math skills from getting rusty. Practice is important but you don’t have to turn summer break into a set of drills. Try to apply math to real life to make it come alive for your child. Cooking and baking, for example, are great ways to practice fractions...and who doesn't love brownies? 📊
5. Encourage STEM thinking: You can boost STEM thinking at home by encouraging your child’s natural questioning and curiosity. Instead of giving them the answer or solution to a problem immediately, encourage your child to come up with several possible solutions on their own. Let your child experience a little bit of "productive struggle" - you might be amazed at the way they decide to solve their problems! 🤨
Track & Field Day
Wow! What a beautiful day it turned out to be! We couldn't have gotten luckier with the weather. This year was by far the smoothest track & field day that we have had! Student behavior was amazing, student performance was through the roof (there were SEVERAL records broken and many others that came sooooo close to being broken), and the music was phenomenal if I do say so myself (hehe)!
Huge shout-out to all parents who were able to join us. I know that sometimes it's hard to get off work, but our students love having you there for track & field day!
Wild About Reading
Our K-5 students were so WILD ABOUT READING - 95% of students earned certificates for our Book-It at-home reading program this year! On May 11th all K-5 students who earned certificates will be going "into the wild" for some fun at the Stromsburg park. The picnic and play time will be followed up with an exotic animal presentation by Wildlife Encounters. Students will get to see and learn about some real, live, exciting animals right here at SRC! Thanks parents and guardians for all of your support helping and encouraging your child(ren) to meet their monthly goals throughout the 6 months of Book-It this year!
HUGE Shout Out to our AWESOME SRC Booster Club 💛 🖤 💙 🐾 for providing the funding for our Wildlife Encounters assembly! We're so grateful for your support!

Character Trait of the Month
Creativity
Talk about creativity as a family. Creativity is using your imagination to Create something new or solve a problem. This challenge is about Creating something new – together! Find a large cardboard box and unleash your Creativity as you work together to Create something totally new. What can the box become? Perhaps it will be a spaceship, an ice cream shop, a fairy castle, or a race car. Use your imagination and any craft supplies or scraps on hand to turn an ordinary box into a new Creation!

Summer School
SUMMER SCHOOL INVITATIONS HAVE GONE HOME. PLEASE CHECK YOUR CHILD'S GREEN FOLDER!
We will be having Summer School the first three weeks of June. Classes will be from 8:00-12:00 daily. This is a great opportunity for students to work on any skills that they missed throughout the school year, make sure that there is no summer slide, and catch up to - or stay at grade level on all priority standards.
Summer School will be by invitation only and will serve those students who are in need of the most help. While we understand that some parents may want their children to participate, if the need for summer school is not there - we will not be able to accommodate all students.
Summer School invitations will be coming out soon! Those invitations will be based on data from NSCAS Testing, MAP Growth Assessments, Acadience Assessments, and classroom teacher recommendations.
If your child receives an invitation, please return it as soon as possible with a YES or NO marked. We will continue inviting students until classes are full at each grade level.
Kindergarten Enrollment 2026 (Class of 2039)

Mark your calendars!!
Preschool Enrollment
Mark your calendars for March 1st! Our preschool enrollment will begin on March 1st, and this year we will continue our digital enrollment format available through our S-RC website (links on the website will not be there until March 1st). You will need to fill out all enrollment forms, and then prior to the first day of school in August, you will need to bring in your child's original birth certificate and immunization records. Ideal times to bring in those forms would be before the last day of school OR at our Preschool Open House in the Fall.
