On Tuesday, our Tigers celebrated Dot Day with creativity, collaboration, and plenty of joyful learning! From classrooms to our hallways, students were encouraged to make their mark, take creative risks, and discover how art can connect with learning in so many different ways.

Fourth Grade combined art and math by putting their place value skills to work. Students created marvelous dot-art masterpieces where each dot represented a specific value. They then used those values to determine the “price” of their one-of-a-kind creations—a wonderful example of how learning can cross subjects and come to life in creative ways!

One of the highlights of the day was our first-ever Obliteration Room, inspired by artist Yayoi Kusama. Students from across Lower School helped transform a blank space into a colorful explosion of dots. I especially loved hearing our students share what they had learned about Kusama and her famous Infinity Rooms. There is something pretty special about seeing our students so excited to share their learning—and getting to learn from them, too!

And the creativity didn't stop with our planned Dot Day activities—or even when we headed outside! Our 3rd Grade girls have been spending recess painting colorful rocks and working together to create their very own rock garden on our playground. We love seeing our Tigers take an idea, collaborate with one another, and create something that brings a little more color, creativity, and joy to St. Luke’s.

Dot Day was a beautiful reminder that when we give children opportunities to imagine, create, problem-solve, and share their ideas, every Tiger can make their mark!

Last Friday, our second graders honored September 11 through the story This Very Tree, reflecting on courage, hope, and the many ways people step forward to help others. It was a meaningful reminder that remembrance is not only about looking back, but also about considering how we can carry those values forward in our own lives.

That spirit of service is already taking shape in our own students. This week, our third graders kicked off a special Leadership & Service opportunity as Junior Sacristans. Through this role, students will help care for and prepare the sacred space and items used in worship, deepening their understanding of the holy meal we share together each week.

We hope this experience sparks both wonder and appreciation for our worship traditions while also teaching an important lesson: service often happens through small, thoughtful acts done faithfully for others. Whether helping in Chapel, caring for our school community, or showing kindness to a classmate, our Tigers are learning that leadership and service go hand in hand—and that each of us has something meaningful to give.

Our first grade scientists are digging into the parts of a plant and learning how each part helps a plant grow! This week, students participated in a hands-on investigation using dodgeballs and water to model how water travels up the stem and carries nutrients to the flower.

This engaging experience gave students the opportunity to apply their science knowledge in a memorable way while also practicing important social-emotional skills such as teamwork, perseverance, communication, and problem-solving.

One of the greatest joys of Lower School is simply getting to share our days with our Tigers. We get to celebrate their learning, cheer on their accomplishments, encourage them through their struggles, and witness all the little moments of growth that happen in between.

Each child brings something special to our St. Luke’s community, and we love having opportunities to remind them just how much they matter.

That is one of the reasons our monthly birthday celebrations are so meaningful. They give us another chance to pause, celebrate our students, and make their special days feel just a little extra special.

Happy birthday to all of our September birthday Tigers! We hope the year ahead is filled with happiness, laughter, new adventures, growth, and plenty of wonderful memories. We are so grateful for each of you and for the joy you bring to our St. Luke’s family!

Elementary Girls Lacrosse Program Inquiry

Thanks to growing interest from our St. Luke’s families, we’re excited to introduce Girls Lacrosse for 1st–4th grade! SLES parent McLean Russell is working alongside Athletic Director Ed Burton to bring this exciting new opportunity to the Hilltop.

Girls lacrosse is a fast-paced, non-contact sport that builds confidence, coordination, agility, and camaraderie. And with many players in San Antonio learning the game together, no previous lacrosse experience is necessary!

The girls lacrosse season runs in the Spring, and we’ll be sharing more information at a later date. In the meantime, if your child is interested in playing, please fill out the interest form below!

This year will serve as a pilot season for girls lacrosse at St. Luke’s. We’re excited to see our students embrace the sport, build a team, and grow together. If the program is a successful fit for our community, we look forward to continuing to build and offer lacrosse at St. Luke’s in the years ahead.

Practices and games will not conflict with other St. Luke’s sports. Games will be held on weekends, allowing our Tigers to participate in multiple sports throughout the year.

We can’t wait to see our Tigers take the field!

The St. Luke's Way - Shoutouts The St. Luke's Way - Shoutouts

Beginning next Friday, we will start recognizing students through our St. Luke’s Way Shoutouts!

These shoutouts will celebrate students who demonstrate that value through their words, choices, actions, and interactions with others.

Sometimes those moments will be big, and sometimes they will be found in the simple, everyday ways our Tigers show kindness, courage, faith, service, leadership, scholarship, and citizenship throughout our classrooms, hallways, athletic spaces, chapel, and community.

Keep an eye on this section each week to see which Tigers have been caught living the St. Luke’s Way!

Dress Uniform (1st-4th)

On Wednesdays and other special occasions, our students elevate their everyday uniform by wearing what we call Dress Uniform. These days are an opportunity to teach students that how we present ourselves can reflect respect—for our school, our traditions, our community, and the occasion. Wearing Dress Uniform also helps students practice responsibility, attention to detail, and pride in representing St. Luke’s.

Please review the images below (or the guide above) to ensure all Dress Uniform guidelines are followed.
