PARKER WEEKLY BULLETIN

Week of May 11th, 2026

PARKER WEEKLYBULLETINWeek of May 11th, 2026

Message from Principal Blagg

Good afternoon Parker Families:

It was a busy and event filled week at Parker. Our fifth-grade students took the Science MCAS and there was also a field trip to the Concord Museum. We capped off the week with the 5th Grade Spring Fling Social this afternoon. As is this case every Spring. The days are filled with activity, excitement, and fun events. We will have another busy week ahead of us next week.

Math MCAS

Our 5th grade students will be taking the math portion of the MCAS on Monday and Tuesday May 11 and 12 while our 6th graders will take the MCAS on Thursday and Friday May 14 and 15. Please remind your child to charge their Chromebook the night before, get a good night's sleep, and eat a good breakfast. Next week marks the end of the MCAS season and I am very proud of our students' efforts.

May Artists of the Month

Congratulations are in order for Tedrick Walsh (Grade 5) and Charlotte Hulbert (Grade 6) for being selected as the Parker Artists of the Month. Under the direction of Ms. Norman, these two artists have gained skills and expressed themselves with creativity and passion. We are so proud of them!

5th Grade Spring Fling Social

Our fifth grade students had a raucous good time after school at our Spring Fling Social hosted by our amazing PTO. There was music, dancing, games, and snacks enjoyed by all. It was fantastic to see our students have fun with their friends in a safe and fun environment. Please see some fun pictures below.

Social Emotional Curriculum

We continued our social emotional curriculum with our 5th grade students continuing their unit on Empathy and Kindness while our sixth grade students continued their unit on Managing Relationships and Social Conflict. Please see a brief summary of the lesson and a conversation starter to discuss further with your child.

Grade 5: Empathy in the Community

Summary: In this lesson, your child will describe how empathy can help someone identify and solve a problem in their community.

Try This at Home: Point out something that has changed for the better in your neighborhood recently. Ask your child why they think that change is helpful. Point out how empathy might have helped someone decide to make that change.

Grade 6: Considering Multiple Perspectives

Summary: In this week’s lesson, your child will learn how to view situations from multiple perspectives so they can better avoid and resolve conflicts.

Question: Tell your child about a time when your view of a conflict changed because you were able to see it from another person’s perspective. Ask your child if they have changed their view about a conflict lately.

SAVE THE DATE - WE ARE PARKER

Our 2nd annual We Are Parker community celebration will take place on Thursday, June 4 from 5-8 pm. There will be food trucks, an art show and maker space, a cabaret performance, badminton tourney, and outdoor games. Bring the family and stop by for part or all of the event. This is a celebration of our school community with all its diversity, talents, and joy.

Have a great week everyone. Reach out if you need support.

Warm regards,

Josh

CELL PHONE AND SMART WATCH USAGE CELL PHONE AND SMART WATCH USAGE

User uploaded image
zoom_out_map

In order to provide a positive and engaging learning environment it is important that students are freed from unnecessary distractions. Cell phones and smart watches have proven to be a major distraction and source of anxiety and social drama for students.

If students need to contact home, they should see their teacher/administrator to receive permission to use the phone in the classroom or office. Conversely, if a parent needs to speak with a student, the parent should call the school office. All cell phones and/or smart watches should be off while in school. Any student using a cell phone and or smart watch while school is in session will have that cell phone and/or smart watch confiscated by administration. A first offense will lead to a warning and the administrator will return the phone to the student at the end of the day. Second and subsequent offenses will result in the phone being returned only to the parent and/or further disciplinary actions.

We would prefer that all cell phones and smart watches remain at home. If the cell phone and/or smart watch accompanies your child to school then please reinforce the expectation that they BOTH will be stored in their backpacks and powered down. Any communication with your child should be conducted through the main office or will be accessed after school has ended for the day. We appreciate your support for this policy. It is our experience that when freed from the pull of their phones and social media students are able to concentrate, be fully present, and be active participants in their education.
