Seymour Newsletter
October 2026
Happy October, Seymour Families!
As we welcome a new month and the start of fall, I continue to be proud of the positive energy, teamwork, and kindness we see throughout Seymour Elementary each day. Our students and staff have done a wonderful job starting the school year focused on what it means to be Respectful, Responsible, and Safe, while working together to make Seymour a place where everyone feels welcomed, supported, and valued.
One important part of building that culture is our continued work with the Positivity Project. Each week, students learn about different character strengths such as kindness, teamwork, perseverance, gratitude, and empathy. Through the “Other People Matter” mindset, students learn that our words, actions, and choices have an impact on the people around us. Families can help reinforce this work by talking with their children about the character strength of the week and looking for ways to practice it at home and in the community.
We are also continuing to recognize and celebrate the many positive choices our students make each day. Students can earn Raider Tickets for demonstrating our school expectations and positive character, receive Positive Office Referrals, and be recognized as one of our Knights of the Month. These opportunities allow us to shine a light on students who are making a positive difference at Seymour.
Our restorative practices are another important part of this work. Through classroom circles, conversations, and opportunities for reflection, students learn how to communicate, solve problems, take responsibility for their choices, and strengthen relationships with others.
Creating a positive school culture takes all of us—students, staff, and families working together. We are off to a great start, and I can already feel the positivity spreading throughout Seymour. Let’s keep supporting one another, celebrating the good, and finding ways to make a positive difference each and every day.
Below is our Seymour Behavior Matrix, which outlines the Respectful, Responsible, and Safe expectations we teach, model, and reinforce with our students each day.

i-READY
Continuing i-Ready at Our School
This year, we will continue to use i-Ready, as a tool designed to support your child’s learning in both reading and mathematics. i-Ready is an online program that helps teachers assess students' individual needs and create personalized learning paths to help each student grow academically. With this program, we aim to provide targeted instruction that addresses the specific areas where each child can improve, ensuring that all students have the opportunity to thrive.
Fire Prevention Week October
So far this year at Seymour we have practiced two fire drills and one severe weather drill. Students in grades 1-3 will have a fire prevention assembly on October 13th at school.
