A Note from the Principal
Day 146/180
I hope you all had a wonderful and well deserved April vacation and were able to enjoy some time with family and friends.
We are just starting the important process of developing class placements for the upcoming school year. This is a thoughtful and collaborative effort that includes input from all staff members who work with your child and takes into account a wide range of academic, social, and emotional factors. While we do not accept requests for specific teachers, we do value family input when it comes to the type of learning environment that best supports your child. If you would like to share any information that may help us in this process, please feel free to reach out to your child’s current teacher or to me directly by May 15. Our goal, as always, is to set every student up for success.
Tomorrow, we are also excited to continue what is quickly becoming a great Jacobs tradition with our second annual Career Day. Students will hear from a variety of professionals representing different career paths, giving them the opportunity to learn about real world experiences and begin thinking about their own future goals. We elevated the experience this year by including our JMS students in the experience as well. All JES students are encouraged to dress as a professional they aspire to be. It is always a fun and meaningful experience for our students, and we look forward to another inspiring day. Thank you to parent volunteer Heather Saforrian for coordinating this event for the second straight year.
In addition, please mark your calendars for our annual Spring Fling Dances that will take place tomorrow night. The JES dance will take place from 5:00-6:30 and is not a drop-off event. The JMS dance will follow at 7:00-8:30 and is a drop-off event. This is always a fun night filled with energy, music, and a great sense of community. We look forward to seeing so many of our students and families there.
Next week, we jump right back into MCAS testing with the Math sessions, as our 4th and 5th graders kick things off. We are looking forward to another strong showing from our students as they continue to demonstrate their effort and growth.

District-Wide Strategic Planning Committee Seeks Your Input
A Message from Superintendent of Schools Mike Jette
I’m pleased to share that Hull Public Schools has partnered with Teaching & Learning Alliance (TLA) to undertake a District-wide Strategic Planning process. When this work is completed later this summer, we will have a five-year Strategic Plan in place to guide the district’s priorities and annual efforts.
In the coming week, there will be several ways that families, staff and community members can directly engage in this work:
Surveys - We invite you to take a survey about the current strengths and opportunities of the Hull Public Schools. To be successful, we need a broad voice and strong participation from our students, families, staff and community members. Please complete the survey and share your voice with our planning committee. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/HullSP2026
Focus Groups - Student and Staff focus groups are scheduled for Wednesday, May 6th during the school day. In addition, there will be 3 opportunities for parents, caregivers and community members to have their voice heard:
Parents:
Hull High School from 11:30 - 12:10, HS Exhibition Room
The Jacobs School from 1:15 - 2:00, LMJ Library
Community Members, School Committee & Parents:
The Jacobs School from 5:00 - 5:45, LMJ Library
To guide this work, process the data collected and inform the development of the strategic plan, we have established an 18 member planning committee. The members of this committee are:
Mike Jette, Superintendent of Schools
Christine Cappadona, Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment
Kristen Ryan, Director of Student Services
Diane Saniuk, Business Administrator
Rob Shaw, HHS Principal
Kyle Shaw, LMJ Principal
Sheila Blair, HHS Teacher
Heather Weber, JMS Teacher
Maura Jones, JES Teacher
Kyle Conley/Brendan Kilroe, School Committee
Lili Hedrick, School Committee
Alley Preston, HHS Student
Reese Irby, JMS Student
Laurie McDowell, HHS Parent
Courtney McCarthy, JMS Parent
Jill Mansfield-Jollin, JES Parent
Tony Green, Community Member (non-parent)
We look forward to learning about your experiences through the surveys and encourage you to participate in one of the focus groups. Questions about this process may be directed to me at mjette@hullpublicschools.us.
