STAAR TESTING IS HERE!!!
We are so proud of our Lions for showing up and giving their best during last week’s STAAR Reading (ELAR) test last week! Their focus and determination were truly inspiring, and we know they’re ready to finish strong!
This week, we continue our STAAR journey with:
-
🧪 Science STAAR – Tuesday, April 22nd (5th Grade only)
-
➕ Math STAAR – Thursday, April 24th (3rd–5th Grades)
As always, your partnership is key in helping your child feel confident and prepared! Here’s how you can help support them:
✅ Make sure your child gets a good night's rest before each test
✅ Ensure they arrive to school on time—testing begins promptly at 7:45 AM
✅ Pack a lunch if they are not eating from the cafeteria (no food deliveries allowed)
✅ Encourage them with positive words—they’ve worked hard for this!
📌 Please note: These are closed campus days. That means:
-
No campus visitors
-
No food deliveries
-
No Suzuki Strings lessons
We know testing days can feel a bit overwhelming, but we’re keeping things calm, focused, and encouraging for all of our students. Our goal is for every child to feel confident and ready to show what they’ve learned this year!
Let’s keep the momentum going and finish strong—Lions are ready to shine!

HAPPY ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT'S DAY!!! (April 23rd)
This week—and every week—we celebrate the phenomenal team of professionals who are truly the heartbeat of Parker Elementary. Our campus simply couldn’t function without the dedication, efficiency, and grace you each bring to your roles.
✨ Melody Sanchez, our Business Administrator, keeps us organized and on track with payroll, campus orders and substitute with a professionalism, and a calm that steadies us all.
✨ Heather Rowe, our Office Manager & Administrative Assistant to the Principal, is the glue that holds our front office together and a trusted support in every facet of campus operations. (She's the real boss of the building, lol)
✨ Cinthia Martinez, our Administrative Assistant to the Assistant Principals, brings both warmth and diligence, ensuring every detail is handled and every task followed through.
✨ Robin Gibson, our Magnet Clerk to the Magnet Coordinator, helps us shine as a Music Magnet campus, managing systems, families, and records with care and consistency.
Thank you for your tireless work, your patience, your smiles, and your unwavering commitment to excellence. You are each valued beyond words, and today we honor all that you do.
With gratitude, admiration, and lots of Parker Pride—thank you for being the amazing team that you are!
🌟 National Volunteer Week: Thank You, Parker Volunteers! 🌟
This week, we also pause to celebrate and thank the incredible volunteers who give so much of their time, energy, and heart to Parker Elementary. From helping in classrooms, organizing events, chaperoning field trips, supporting our magnet programs, and everything in between—you are a vital part of what makes Parker so special.
Our school thrives because of your partnership, and your selfless dedication does not go unnoticed. Whether you’re a PTO leader, a room parent, a helping hand at events, or a behind-the-scenes supporter—we are deeply grateful.
Thank you for showing up, pitching in, and making a lasting impact on our students, staff, and community. You remind us that when we work together, we can achieve anything.
I’m thrilled to introduce one of the newest members of our Parker family, Melissa Garcia, who is joining us as a Special Education Resource teacher.
Melissa brings with her a rich and meaningful journey in education. Born and raised right here in Houston, she also holds deep roots in El Salvador, where she spent many summers growing up—something that has shaped her deep appreciation for family and culture.
This year marks Melissa’s 13th year in education and her 8th as a Special Education teacher. Her career began in HISD as a teacher assistant, and from there, she continued to grow her impact at YES Prep. She has supported students across various instructional settings, including inclusion, SLC, and pull-out, and she brings a well-rounded perspective on how to meet the diverse needs of learners.
Melissa is a collaborative team player who values strong partnerships with teachers, assistant principals, LSPs, and families. While she may have a quiet demeanor, her calm strength and passion for student growth speak volumes. She’s deeply committed to ensuring that every child feels confident in their ability to learn by using strategies that make learning accessible and engaging.
Outside of the classroom, Melissa enjoys reading, painting, collecting unique coffee mugs, and spending time with her beloved Mini Aussie Doodle—who is 3.5 years old and full of personality!
Please join me in giving Ms. Garcia a warm Parker welcome! We’re so lucky to have her as part of our team.
Parker Hosts the 3rd Annual STEM Day!🔬🔊
On Saturday, Parker Elementary was buzzing with excitement as we proudly hosted the 3rd Annual STEM Day presented by the Alpha Beta Sigma Alumni Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. and WIPRO! With over 140 students registered and 100+ in attendance, our campus was transformed into a hub of innovation, collaboration, and hands-on learning.
This year’s electrifying theme—“Sound Waves”—had students diving into three exciting STEM builds: an FM Radio, a Remote Control Car, and a Bluetooth Speaker. Not only did participants work together in teams to complete their projects, but they also competed for the best designs and fastest cars. The energy was high and the creativity was even higher!
Each student left with a certificate of participation, their very own STEM project kit, and big smiles on their faces. We’re especially proud that so many of our own Parker Lions took part in the day’s festivities. It was an honor to host such an impactful and inspiring event, and we can’t wait to do it again!

April Character Education Themes: Trustworthiness, including Honesty, Reliability, Punctuality and Loyalty.
This month, during morning announcement, we’re focusing on Trustworthiness, a key trait that helps children build strong friendships and succeed in school.
Week 1 - Honesty: Being honest means telling the truth and not pretending. Have courage to do the right thing. This week, try to be honest in your words and actions.
Week 2 - Reliability: Being reliable means doing what you say you will do and being someone others can trust and count on. This week, try to keep your promises and be a reliable friend.
Week 3 - Punctuality: Punctuality is being on time. It’s showing up when you’re supposed to, so others can depend on you. This week, try to be on time for your school and other activities.
Week 4 - Loyalty: Loyalty is sticking by your friends and family, especially when they need support. This week, show loyalty by being there for your friends and family, sticking by their side and helping them through tough times.
Week 5 - Being Trustworthy: Trustworthiness is putting honesty, reliability, punctuality, and loyalty together. This week, be trustworthy by showing your friends and family they can count on you.
You can encourage trustworthiness at home by praising honesty, setting a good example, and giving your child responsibilities to build confidence. Let’s work together to help our students grow into trustworthy individuals.
Thank you for your support!
