From the Principal-Our Falcons are SOARing! From the Principal-Our Falcons are SOARing!

Hello Riverview Families,

We’ve officially wrapped up our first full week of school, and our Falcons are soaring! Classrooms are buzzing with learning, students are building friendships, and teachers are guiding them in practicing the routines and expectations that help everyone succeed.

I’m so proud of the way our students are demonstrating what it means to SOAR each day—showing respect, owning their choices, acting safely, and rising to the challenge. Thank you for reinforcing these expectations at home and for your continued partnership in helping our Falcons grow.

We have a great year ahead, and it’s exciting to see such a strong start. I can’t wait to see all the growth and celebrations to come!

Upcoming Events:

  • August 25th: PTA General Meeting – 7:00 pm

  • August 29th: All School Ice Cream Social – 6:00–8:00 pm

Sincerely,

Dr. Urban
Riverview Principal

Connect, Align, Grow Connect, Align, Grow

How Our Goals Connect with the Community

At Riverview, our Connect, Align, and Grow goals aren’t just for school, they thrive when our whole community is part of the journey.

  • Connect: Building strong, trusting relationships between students, staff, and families helps every child feel safe, valued, and ready to learn.

  • Align: Working together—home, school, and community, means students hear consistent messages and expectations wherever they go.

  • Grow: When we nurture curiosity, resilience, and responsibility, students become confident learners and caring citizens who make a difference in our community.

Each week, we’ll share a simple way you can support these goals at home and in the community.

ALIGN – Working Together for Student Success

At Riverview, we know students thrive when home and school are working together. When families and staff share consistent expectations, students feel supported and understand that the important adults in their lives are on the same team.

This week, we are highlighting the “S” in SOAR: Safe. Being safe means making choices that protect ourselves and others, whether we are in the classroom, on the playground, or at home.

How Families Can Help This Week: Talk with your child about one way they can be Safe at school (like walking in the hallways or using equipment correctly) and one way they can be Safe at home (like wearing a helmet while biking or using kind hands with siblings). Reinforcing these ideas helps students see that safety is important everywhere.

Cell Phones and Smart Watches Cell Phones and Smart Watches

At Riverview, our priority is to create a safe, focused, and distraction-free learning environment where every student can thrive. To help us maintain this, we want to share a reminder about expectations for cell phones and smart watches at school.

Cell Phones

  • Elementary students should not use cell phones during the school day.

  • If a phone is sent with your child, it must remain on silent or school mode and stay in their backpack from arrival until dismissal.

  • If you need to get an important message to your child (such as a transportation change), please call the school office, and we’ll be sure to deliver the message promptly.

  • If your child needs to reach you, they may use the school phone in the office.

Smart Watches

  • Smart watches may be used as a timepiece.

  • They should remain in school mode or be stored in backpacks during the day.

  • Please avoid texting or calling your child during school hours, the best way to reach them is through the office.

If devices are misused:
Phones or watches used during the school day for purposes other than timekeeping will be asked to remain in backpacks or may be held in the office until dismissal.

We know technology plays an important role in students’ lives, and we are committed to teaching responsible use. Together, we can help students develop healthy habits and keep their focus on learning while at school. Thank you for partnering with us to ensure that Riverview continues to be a place where students can learn, grow, and succeed!

Lunchroom Reminders Lunchroom Reminders

We want to make lunchtime smooth and enjoyable for all students! Here are a few reminders to help things run well:

  • Lunch Choice: Students will make their lunch selection each morning when attendance is taken.

  • Bringing a Lunch: Students who bring a lunch from home may still purchase a milk if they’d like.

  • Water: A water fountain is available in the lunchroom. Students may also bring a refillable water bottle from home.

  • Lunch Balance: Please check your child’s lunch account regularly to ensure there are adequate funds available.

  • Allergies: If your child has food allergies, please be sure the office and teacher are aware so we can support their needs at lunchtime.

  • Home Lunch Reminders: For our younger students, please review with them what items from their lunch can and cannot be thrown away. This helps reduce confusion and keeps lunchboxes coming home with the right containers.

Thank you for helping us keep lunchtime safe, smooth, and enjoyable for everyone!

Counselor's Corner Counselor's Corner

This month in counseling, we are beginning with activities to get to know each other and learning more about the role of the school counselor. We are also focusing on our Riverview character trait of the month: RESPECT.

Respect means seeing the good in people and things and treating them with care. Seeing the good in others might look like noticing what you appreciate about someone—whether they are similar to you or very different. Treating others with care might sound like listening quietly when someone is speaking, responding with kindness, helping when you see a need, or standing up for someone else. Respect is something we can show every day, in small and big ways. How will you show respect today?

Custodial Team

This week, we’re celebrating our amazing Custodial Team!

Our custodians work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep Riverview clean, safe, and welcoming for students, staff, and families. From shining hallways and classrooms to well-kept grounds, they make sure our Falcons have a beautiful place to learn and grow every single day.

Their hard work and pride in our school do not go unnoticed and we are so grateful for everything they do to support our learning environment. Thank you for keeping Riverview looking its best!

Nurse Updates Nurse Updates

A nurse is now available in the office, so please feel free to call or stop by if you need to:

  • Drop off medications or medication orders

  • Inform us of any new health conditions

  • Provide updated immunization records (especially if your child is new to Riverview)

  • Submit a physical exam form (required if your child is attending a Kansas school for the first time and is 8 years old or younger)

We also recommend keeping a change of clothes in your child’s backpack. Accidents and spills—especially during lunch—are common, and we may not always have extra clothing in the right size.

If you prefer, you may also email our nurses directly:

Jill Freisberg – jfreisberg@usd232.org
Nancy Tausz – ntausz@usd232.org

Visitor Management System Visitor Management System

USD 232 continue using visitor management system this year through Centegix. All visitors will continue checking in through the office, however an ID will be a requirement. This ID will be entered into the Centegix system and will create a sticker with a picture that must be visibly worn throughout the building. Nobody will be allowed in the building without an ID. Thank you in advance for your patience as we implement this new system!

Car Loop Tips for a Smooth Pick-Up & Drop-Off

To help keep our car loop moving safely and efficiently:

  • Have your child practice getting in and out of their car seat or seatbelt on their own.

  • Parents, please stay in your vehicle—our staff or Honor Patrol helpers will assist as needed.

  • A folder, sign, or paper with your student’s name displayed helps us get them to your car more quickly.

Thank you for helping us keep the process safe, smooth, and speedy for everyone!

Forgot Something? Use Our Drop-Off Table! Forgot Something? Use Our Drop-Off Table!

For your convenience, we have a Drop-Off Table located just inside the front doors. If your student forgot something, like their lunch, instrument, glasses, or any other classroom item, you can simply buzz in, drop it off, and be on your way. No need to sign in or go through the visitor management system. Just remember to write your student’s name on the sticky notes provided so we can make sure it gets to them quickly. Thank you for helping keep our drop-offs smooth and efficient!

This revolutionary, party-based approach to chess has had amazing success—winning multiple state championships—because our unique and unprecedented educational philosophy, “the chess party,” is the perfect way to transform a complete beginner into a devastating chess machine.

Our unique model has swept America because it has never been seen before: we simply invite every beginner in your school to join our school chess team and we use only super-fun teaching methods such as super-fast chess clock-slapping chess games, zany chess videos, a strict bully-free environment, silicone wristbands for tactics mastery, chess puzzlers for candy, driving music, hilarious tactics-lesson videos, Mardi-Gras bead chess tournaments each day we meet and National Online tournaments every weekend!
