Updates & Reminders

Water Bottles for School Water Bottles for School

Students are encouraged to bring water bottles to school, however recently we have had an increase in insulated cups with straws inplace of standard water bottles. The issue with these is that when they are knocked over they do spill throgh the straw and straw hole. We ask that these are not used in place of regular water bottles that do close and will not leak when knocked over. Students do bring thier water bottles to gym class to keep hydrated and the amount of spills we had this week did cause a safety issue. Thank you for your support with this.

If there is snow on the ground, only students with snow boots and snow pants will be allowed to play in the field when we go outside. All others will have to stay on the black top and use the equipment that is available to play with there.

Chromebook Insurance Chromebook Insurance

Chromebook insurance is a separate fee this year for $25. If you signed the paper at Back to School asking for insurance the fee has been assigned to you in Skyward. The insurance is not effective until purchased. You can pay through Skyward or send exact cash or check to Joan Martin Elementary. Change will not be given. It is not too late to still purchase insurance if you opted out before. We strongly encourage all parents to purchase insurance.

Kleenex Needed Kleenex Needed

Many teachers did not include Kleenex on their lists of classroom supplies due to us having a stock in building from past donations, however, our stock is running low. If you could send in a box or two with your student to their teacher that would be appreciated.

Changes to End of Day Transportation Changes to End of Day Transportation

All changes for End of Day Transportation MUST be done by 1:30. You MUST call the office, 219-947-7869 and speak to someone in the office. Please do not just email the teacher. This is to ensure that all students arrive home safely. We can not pull a student off a bus or out of the bus line at the end of the day. Thank you for partnering with us to keep everyone safe!

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures Arrival and Dismissal Procedures

We are having a lot of parents driving their student in the morning and parking in Lot A, off of 10th Street and then walking students to Door 7. Please remember if you are driving your student you need to pull around to the car rider line in the back of the school and drop off at Door 11. This is for the safety of those that are walking through that parking lot as well as the buses. Thank you for your understanding.

Car Riders

  • Car riders are dropped off/picked up in the back of the school and enter/exit Door 11
  • Parents need to stay in the car line and pull around the circle as directed by the superviosors when dropping off and picking up students.
  • If you would like to park, you will need to park in Lot C (The Fenced Lot in back) and walk your student to the sidewalk. Parents walk students to the loading doc road and students walk to the Door 11 from there.
  • Parents should NOT park in Lot A (front lot) and walk/pick up students at the door. This is where our buses pull through and creates a dangerous situation if parked there.
  • Door 11 will remain open till 8:55, after that please walk to the front, Door 1

Walkers

  • Students who walk to school should enter Door 7 (the same door as bus riders)
  • Door 7 will remain open until 8:45, if it is after this time please come to the front, Door 1

Lunch Accounts Lunch Accounts

Please remember to add money to your students lunch accounts. The prices for lunch and breakfast are listed below. You can send in money in an envelope with your students first and last name as well as teacher marked on the outside or you can add funds through Skyward.

Stay Informed!

The School City of Hobart uses Remind to communicate with families via text messages and/or phone calls.

What are some ways that we use Remind?

  • District News- Weekly newsletter, emergency closings, and other important information
  • Class Reminders from Teachers - Events, tests, homework, due dates
  • Announcements and Celebrations
  • One-on-One Help

If you have not been receiving our messages and would like to, please reach out to your student's teacher for their Remind class code, which you will then text to 81010. For example, if you wanted to join a class with the class code @math, you would text @math to 81010.
