The FranklinPressPrincipal's Update - September 2017

BF Opens with an Awesome Year Ahead

In just 9 short days, our school welcomed 400 students and their families back to school with our annual Meet & Greet, opening day, Back to School Night, a PTO meeting, a magic show featuring Joe Romano, welcome back meetings with Mr. Meurer, International Dot Day fun, an award from Sustainable Jersey for Schools, a 1 Day - $1 - Makes a Difference fundraiser, our Ice Cream Fun Time, and so many awesome classroom activities!

It has been tons of fun starting the school year off, and this place is always the BEST because of the kids that come each day! Thank you for allowing us to work with your kids for this coming year!

Bus Expectations and Bus Leaders

At BF we strive to take care on the bus. Below is a picture of our bus expectations that we review with students each year. In the coming weeks, Mrs. Deak and Mr. Meurer will re-launch our Third Grade Bus Leaders program that provides leadership opportunities for our students while also promoting positive bus rides to and from school.

BF wins Sustainable Jersey for Schools Award

Ben Franklin is the proud recipient of a bronze medal from Sustainable Jersey for Schools!

Sustainable Jersey for Schools, a program for kindergarten through twelfth-grade public schools in New Jersey, is voluntary, but achieving certification is not easy. Each school that is certified must submit documentation to show it has completed a balanced portfolio of the program’s sustainability actions, attaining a minimum number of points. Over 2,700 sustainability actions were completed by schools and districts participating in the Sustainable Jersey for Schools program - from performing energy audits and boosting recycling efforts to integrating sustainability into student learning and promoting student and staff wellness.

At Ben Franklin, we talk a lot about taking care and include taking care of the Earth as part of that. Through sustainable school practices to classrooms lessons to grade level projects, Ben Franklin truly models what it means to take care!
