SUPERINTENDENT & PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Hello GLTS Community,
Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year! It was wonderful to welcome our dedicated staff back to the building on Tuesday, August 26th, as they prepare for another outstanding year. Their energy and commitment are the foundation of our success.
We are eagerly anticipating the arrival of our freshmen and new students for their orientation this Thursday, August 28th, please note that dismissal for orientation is at 1:00 p.m. We can't wait to have all of our students back in the halls when school officially begins on Tuesday, September 2nd. Bus schedules for orientation can be found on our website at this link.
On Tuesday, each family was sent busing information in an email with their student's bus number, bus stop, arrival time, and homeroom.
Also on Tuesday, each student received an email to their school account from Isobel Gioia with login information for PowerSchool Student Access. The email contains instructions on how to access the PowerSchool student portal. Students will log in using Single Sign-On (SSO), which means they will use their GLTS school email address and password to sign in.
This newsletter contains important information to help us start the year smoothly. Please take a moment to review the details on picture day, technology updates, and our upcoming Back-to-School Night.
For your reference, the back-to-school letters for each grade that were sent last week can be found on the parent information page on our website at this link.
Each year, all students and their parents/caregivers are required to read and sign off on the Student Handbook. Please review the SY25–26 Student Handbook using this link and complete by September 12, 2025.
-
On page 99, you will find the electronic sign-off link.
-
If you prefer, you may print the form on page 100 and send in a hard copy.
Thank you for your cooperation in ensuring that all students and families are familiar with the policies and expectations outlined in the handbook.

To keep things running smoothly, students will be called out of their SHOP class only for their photos. Be sure to check your student’s schedule to know their picture day. For example, if their shop day is Tuesday, that's their day to shine!
For our students on Co-op, their pictures will be taken during their WIN block.

Update from the IT Department
Update on Student Access to Google Services for the 2025–2026 School Year
As we get ready for the upcoming school year, we want to share an important update aimed at strengthening student safety, privacy, and focus during school hours.
What’s New?
Beginning in the fall, students will no longer be able to directly access YouTube.com or other non-core Google services—such as Google Earth, Google Translate, and similar tools—using their school accounts or Chromebooks.
Why This Matters
These services are not part of Google’s core suite of educational tools (like Google Classroom and Google Docs), and therefore don’t fall under the same student data privacy agreements. They also collect user data and may display personalized ads, which raises concerns when it comes to student use.
Because students under 18 require parental consent to use these additional Google apps, collecting permission for all students would be very difficult. This would create unequal access and make consistent lesson planning challenging for teachers.
Impact on Instruction
Students will still benefit from educational video content. Teachers can continue to share curriculum-aligned videos by embedding approved resources directly into Google Classroom or Slides, and other appropriate platforms. This approach allows students to stay engaged with learning while avoiding the distractions that come with unrestricted YouTube browsing. We are committed to addressing any emerging issues related to technology, curriculum, and instruction, thereby ensuring that teachers and students possess the essential tools to achieve their educational goals in both academic and Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs.
Use of Personal Devices
All students are assigned a school-owned Chromebook for educational purposes. In order to ensure the safety of our network and optimal functioning of all technology within the school, students and staff are prohibited from using personal devices to access the Network; this includes cellphones, Ipads, and laptops. Any exceptions to this rule must be approved by GLTS Administration and the IT Department.
Looking Ahead
We will continue to support teachers, students and families through this transition. Thank you for partnering with us to keep students safe, focused, and ready to succeed.
Attention Co-op Students
Back-to-School Check-in
All co-op students must attend school on their first scheduled shop day to check in with their shop teacher. This is an important opportunity to discuss your current placement and get answers to any questions you have.
If you are a Black Week shop student on co-op: Your first shop day is September 2nd. Please report to school on this day and you may return to your co-op placement the following week on September 10th.
If you are an Orange Week shop student on co-op: Your first shop day is September 3rd. Please report to school on this day and you may return to your co-op placement on September 4th.
School Counseling
Welcome Back Reggies! Your counselors are back at GLTS, excited and preparing for your return. As a reminder, here are the counselor caseload assignments. Feel free to reach out to them with any questions or concerns.
Scheduling Issues
As we begin the new school year and welcome all students back next week, the School Counseling Office wants to ensure every student has the correct schedule. If your student has an issue or concern with their schedule, we ask that they follow the steps outlined below:
Blank Schedule:
If your schedule is completely blank, please report to the Counseling Office immediately. Be sure to sign in and wait to meet with your School Counselor.
Missing Class:
If you are missing a class during a specific period and do not have a class to report to, please report to the Counseling Office during that period. This will allow us to address the issue as quickly as possible.
General Questions About Your Schedule:
If you have other questions or concerns that need to be resolved, please email your School Counselor directly. Your counselor will review your concerns and get back to you as soon as possible.
Thank you for your attention to these guidelines. We appreciate your cooperation as we work to ensure a smooth start to the school year.
Nursing
Welcome Back Reggies!
If your student received a physical and/or vaccinations over the summer, please send documents to nursing (nurses@glts.net). *A reminder that all incoming 9th graders are required to have a current physical on file.*
Students that will be taking medication in school or have an EpiPen, please email nursing for required paperwork (nurses@glts.net)
Workforce Development
This summer Workforce Development conducted training in four areas: electrical, HVAC, facilities and plumbing. Seven employers visited the programs and offered insight into career pathways. Additionally, we introduced a wage reimbursement program for Clean Energy companies, and we hope to have some of our students placed with partnering employers.
43 adults earned completion certificates during a ceremony held on August 14, 2025
