A Message From Mrs. Lucas, BHS Principal
Hello Bobcat Families!
The countdown is on—our new school year begins Monday, August 18th, and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome our amazing students back to Battlefield! As we gear up for a fantastic start, here are a few key reminders to help ensure a smooth and successful first day:
📱 Cell Phone Policy
To support focused learning, students will be assigned lockers to store their cell phones and personal devices during the school day. If you need to update your child’s transportation plans for the end of the day, please email bfhs-attendance@pwcs.edu by 1:30 PM with details. We also encourage families to exchange email addresses with their students to stay connected and informed.
🗓️ First Day Procedures
Be sure to check out the School Counseling section for important details about what to expect on day one.
🎉 Back-to-School Night
Mark your calendars! Battlefield’s Back-to-School Night is happening on Tuesday, August 26th. More details will be shared next week—stay tuned!
✨ Our Focus This Year
In alignment with the PWCS Strategic Plan, Battlefield is committed to elevating student learning through meaningful engagement and real-world skill development. We’re also continuing to strengthen our partnerships with families and the community—because together, we thrive!
We can’t wait to see our Bobcats back in action next week. Enjoy the weekend and get ready for an incredible year ahead!
Warm regards,
Principal Lucas
Where Do I Go First on the First Day?
On the first day of school, all students will report to their Advisory class by 7:25 to start the day.
Schedules received through Student/ParentVUE on August 13th are subject to change as we level classes ahead of school opening.
Upon arrival on the first day, students should check StudentVUE or the locator signs hanging in various locations on the 1st floor to determine the location of their Advisory class. Official schedules will be distributed to students in Advisory.
Students who have an error or conflict on the schedule they receive in Advisory should report to the School Counseling office during the period of the error or conflict.

College & Career Counselor: Amy Shelton SheltonAB@pwcs.edu
The Battlefield school counselors provide academic, personal/social, and career counseling to all students and offer support and assistance to parents/guardians and staff. We encourage you to contact your school counselor if you have any questions/concerns or need assistance throughout the year.
This is a reminder that student schedule change requests concluded on May 2, 2025. The school counseling department spent the summer ensuring students are appropriately placed in courses. As such, we are not entertaining schedule change requests.
We are excited for the new year and look forward to seeing our students on August 18th!
A Message From Mrs. Welteroth our School Psychologist
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Jonathan Haidt, the author of The Anxious Generation, recently shared an important insight from a current study published in JAMA Pediatrics: "on average, students spend about 1.5 hours of their 6.5-hour school day on their smartphones. This means nearly a quarter of the school day is being lost to digital distractions."
Smartphones are incredibly powerful tools — they combine the functions of a phone, camera, notebook, map, and more, all in one device. But for young minds still developing self-regulation and focus, this convenience can quickly become a source of constant distraction. Even when phones are tucked away in pockets or backpacks, their presence can pull attention away from learning, socializing, and being fully present.
As you know our school division has a new cellphone policy to support our students’ ability to concentrate, connect with peers, and engage meaningfully in their education. The goal of the new policy is to help create a learning environment that prioritizes attention/focus, mental well-being, and real-world interaction/social skills.

Digital Addictions: A Family Guide to Prevention, Signs, and Treatment
High levels of digital media use by children and adolescents are of concern to parents and caregivers for good reason: a third of teens report 1 “almost constant” daily use of social media platforms alone, and nearly half of adolescents ages 11-12 who own mobile phones report losing track of how much they are using these devices. 2 Many online platforms are expertly designed to encourage ...
Thank you for your continued partnership in helping our students thrive.
