THE CCS NEWSLETTER
Charlotte Central School - April 17, 2026
CCS Community,
We hope you all have a wonderful upcoming break, whether you're staying close to home and shifting the pace a bit or heading off somewhere. However you choose to pause, we wish you moments of calm, renewal, and peace as we prepare to return to CCS for the final seven weeks of the school year.
As a quick reminder, on Thursday 4/9 we sent an email to caregivers inviting input to help inform student placement for next year. We had originally asked for responses by today; if you're still able to share your input by the end of vacation, we will gladly include it as part of our process and pass it along to next year’s teachers.
Take care, and enjoy the week.
CCS Administrative Team, Tim & Beth
Growing Project-Based Learning & Community Partnerships
During Tuesday's board meeting, Julia Beeworth updated the community on her Rowland Fellowship work, focusing on her collaboration with CCS teachers to grow project-based and community-partnered learning.
The board also heard from a dedicated group of student leaders who spoke about their year-long involvement with the Shelburne Farms Cultivating Pathways to Sustainability program. Their presentation highlighted their success in fostering internal school connections and the "joy of work" they discovered while collaborating with other grades in their school, and their local partner, Phio Ridge Farm.
Kindergarten Earth Caretakers
How can we take care of the Earth? 🌎💚
Our students have been thinking big about small actions that matter—clean water 💧, picking up trash 🗑️, planting trees 🌱, recycling ♻️, saving energy 💡, and finding new ways to get around 🚶♀️🚲.
It’s powerful to see their ideas come together as a shared commitment to our planet—and to each other. 🌍✨
The Final CCS Newscast of the Year
🎬🍟 Our final CCS Newscast of the year is here! 🎉
For reasons we may never fully understand… the crew fully committed to a fast-food theme 🍔🌮🍕
🎤 Johnny interviewed a ton of people (seriously… a ton)
📺 Our “short” commercial… was not short at all 😄
Loosely translated: this is a long episode—and a fun one. Enjoy every minute! 🍿👏
Planned Safety Training at CCS During April Break
We want to make you aware of a law enforcement training that will be happening at Charlotte Central School next Thursday, April 23. While school will be closed for April break—and we hope you will be enjoying a restful vacation—we understand that seeing a number of marked or unmarked vehicles in the parking lot may stir questions.
This training has been coordinated with building and district administration, and supporting these types of exercises when our school is not occupied helps lay the foundation for a more effective response in the event of a real emergency. It also helps build our relationships with critical partners.
While the training will take place indoors only and will likely go unnoticed, we wanted to make you aware of it in the spirit of transparency. If you have any questions, we encourage you to reach out to CCS Principal, Tim O’Leary (toleary@cvsdvt.org).
Counselor Connection with Betsy Lloyd
My hope is to connect with families each week through the newsletter to provide information and resources to support kids and families. As always, please reach out if you need anything, have questions, or if I can help in any way.

This April Break, Consider Planning a Break from Screens
The Student Assistance Program (SAP) team supports students in grades 5-12 by promoting well-being, prevention, and healthy decision-making, and serves as a resource for both students and caregivers. As April break approaches and routines shift, we encourage families to create balance by setting small, realistic limits on screen time to help improve sleep, mood, and connection. Even short breaks from devices can make a positive difference and open up time for meaningful activities together, like screen-free meals or afternoons. Overall, the goal is not to eliminate technology, but to help young people build healthy habits, awareness, and balance over time. Here are a handful of great suggestions and strategies to take a break from screens.

CVSD Intra-District K-8 School Choice
Children entering grades preK-8 who live in the towns of Charlotte, Hinesburg, Shelburne, St. George and Williston may exercise school choice. Our goal is to both allow options for families and also make balanced class sizes to provide a positive learning environment for all of our children.
Processes for intra-district choice of school will be guided by the needs of students, space availability, and existing resources. Given this, we will work to meet as many families’ needs as possible. Guidelines and Application
