🐾Leading With Pride, Passion and Purpose!🐾
Dear Booker Families,
Our Bengals continue to make us proud! Students are settling into their routines, building confidence, and working hard each day. Now that we have established a strong foundation, it is time to strengthen our focus on learning, growth, and achievement.
This week, we will begin Beginning-of-the-Year (BOY) testing. The next two weeks are extremely important because these assessments will help us determine where your child is academically. All grade levels, including Pre-K, will participate in BOY assessments. The results will show us the skills your child has mastered and the areas where additional support may be needed. This information helps us develop the appropriate academic plan, including instruction, small groups, interventions, and tutorials.
Please help your child do their best by:
- Ensuring they attend school every day and arrive on time.
- Avoiding early checkouts during the testing window.
- Making sure they get plenty of rest and eat a healthy breakfast.(Arrive between 7:35 am-8am)
- Encouraging them to take their time, read carefully, and give their best effort.
- Reminding them that these assessments help their teachers understand how to support them.
It is important that each child’s score accurately reflects their true ability. Rushing or not giving their best effort may result in students being assigned to tutorials or interventions they may not need. Please also remember that taking an assessment with classmates is much easier and more comfortable than completing a make-up assessment alone after missing class.
Thank you for helping us ensure every Bengal is present, prepared, and ready to succeed! Together, we will continue Getting Booker Better Faster and helping more Bengals achieve MEETS and MASTERS! B or Better, Bengals! One Family. One Focus. One Fact: BOOKER IS BACK!
With Bengal Pride,
Keisha Womack
Principal

ATTENDANCE MATTERS!
Why Attendance Matters!
September Is Attendance Awareness Month!
Every day at school matters! When students attend school regularly and arrive on time, they build stronger academic skills, develop positive routines, and stay connected with their teachers and classmates. Even a few missed days can make it difficult for students to catch up.
Attendance is directly connected to academic success. Consider these facts:
- Missing only two days each month can equal approximately 18 days or 10% of the school year and is considered chronic absenteeism.
- Only 17% of students who were chronically absent in kindergarten and first grade were reading proficiently by third grade, compared with 64% of students who attended regularly.
- Students who are not reading on grade level by third grade are four times more likely not to graduate from high school.
- Excused and unexcused absences both result in lost instruction, unfinished learning, and difficulty keeping up with classmates.
Please help us reach our 98% attendance goal by ensuring your child is at school every day, on time, and ready to learn. Together, we can keep our Bengals on track for success. Attendance matters and because every day counts with reaching our campus goal, B or Better!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Transportation Changes
All transportation changes must be submitted in writing with a parent signature or in person, prior to 2:30pm of the effective date. It is recommended that you send a note with your child if you need to change transportation. Please follow up on Class Dojo with your teacher to ensure he/she has received the note. We will not take any transportation changes over the phone. You may fax your request with a copy of your ID to 281-891-8751 and call to confirm receipt. If you have an emergency and need to change your transportation for safety reasons, you will need to call the front office and speak with one of our receptionists. They will and then email your request with your ID to the person you spoke with, by 2:30pm.
Tardies - We are asking for all students to transition to class by 7:55am.
The car rider line will close promptly at 7:59 am. Any students arriving at 8 am or after will need to be signed in by a parent. You will need to park, sign in the front office with a valid ID. Classes start promptly at 8:05am.
Early Pick Ups - Parents must sign students out with valid ID and provide a reason for leaving.
Please be mindful that we are required by law to be in attendance for at least 75,600 minutes of instruction, including intermissions and recess. Early pickups must be completed by 2:30pm.
Absences - If your child misses a day, please provide a note informing the attendance clerk, the reason for the absence, sign and date and send it to school with your child, the following day. Parent letters are not required if your child has a doctor's excuse. Parents have 3 days to send in excuses so that attendance records can be resolved into excused/unexcused absences. Remember that notes only provide us the documentation and coding of the absence: Notes do not dismiss absences. The state requires students to be in attendance 90% of the time to avoid penalty.
Lunch Visits/Lunch Deliveries - Booker is closed for lunch visits and lunch deliveries. If your child forgets his/her lunch kit, please drop off their lunch kit in the front office before 9:45am, to ensure our staff has ample time to deliver it to them before their scheduled lunch time. Lunch visits are on hold to allow our teachers, staff, and students to get acquainted with being back in school and establishing our systems and routines. We are looking at ways to involve parents in lunch visits without jeopardizing the safety of our scholars and our instructional focus. Stay tuned!
Birthdays - You are more than welcome to celebrate your child's birthday by sending prepacked goodies and/or store bought cupcakes (sealed) with your child or dropping them off at the front office. Your ID is required. No balloons or bouquets allowed.
