Principal's Message
What a beautiful way to end the week! After two days of rain, we are grateful to see the sunshine today and hope it sticks around for the weekend!
As a reminder, if you haven’t already, please be sure to sign up for a Parent/Teacher Conference. Conferences are a wonderful opportunity to connect with your child’s teacher, celebrate their progress, and partner together for a successful year.
Have a great weekend,
Erin, Nikki, and the OMS staff
Designated Cross Walks
Ms. Vicki, our Belmont/Olive crossing guard, has asked for our help in making sure all families cross the street only at the designated crosswalks. Recently, we have noticed some families crossing diagonally or from the opposite corner, which makes it difficult for Ms. Vicki to safely manage traffic and pedestrians.
Please help us model safe crossing habits for our students by always using the designated crosswalks. Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe during arrival and dismissal!
Bus Route Time Update
We were notified by the transportation department that the route has been running about 5 minutes behind schedule. Moving forward, the driver will be starting the route at 8:20. Please review the attached information regarding bus transportation that was emailed to families at the beginning of the year.
Picture Retakes
To ensure that all students who need a photo retake are included, please complete the form below.
OMS Staff members have signed up to "walk to school"! Join members of our team at the times listed above to walk to school together.
Parent/Teacher Conferences Sign Ups Open
On Tuesday, September 29th, parent/teacher conference sign ups opened. If you haven't already please register for conferences online using http://www.signupgenius.com.
The window for fall conference registration will begin Tuesday, 9/29/26, at 10:00 a.m. through Wednesday, 10/21/26, at 10:00 a.m. Conferences are scheduled in 20-minute increments beginning at 8:20 a.m.
Please remember that these days are set aside for conferences. If you will be out of town, please contact your child’s teacher to arrange a phone conference or Google meeting during a regular conference time slot.

We will adjust our lunch hour on Friday, October 30th. All students staying for lunch will eat from 12:30 - 1:00 p.m and change into costumes from 1:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Our parade will begin around 1:40/1:45 p.m.
Halloween 2026 Permission Slip - One must be filled out for EACH child. **Your child's teacher will reach out directly if you have not yet signed the permission slip.
Multicultural Night
Help us celebrate the cultures & traditions that shape our Olive community!
Owl About Us will take place Thursday, November 5 from 7:00–8:30 PM in the OMS Commons.
Participating families will be provided with table space and a tri-fold display board to decorate. Families may also choose to offer food samples, share an activity or demonstration, and/or participate in a performance on the Commons stage.
There is no one way to participate, we encourage families to share what is meaningful to them or even take on the opportunity to research something new!

Science Club Sign Up - Last Call
Spots Still Available!
Science Club is back with two sessions, meeting on Tuesdays or Wednesdays, October 6 through November 18. We’re offering hands-on science adventures for students in grades two through five; first grade students may participate if an older sibling is enrolled in Science Club AND an adult can volunteer to help every day that the first grade student attends.
We meet from 3:35 until 4:45 PM in the LMC.
Session 1: Air
Experiment with air-powered rocket “fuels”, optimize paper gliders, and create parachutes with the longest hang times.
Session 2: Material Science Challenge
Perform tests to determine the properties of various building and insulating materials. Then design and build a shipping container with the lowest weight to keep an item very cold and withstand physical damage.
Want to join in the fun? Then complete and return the registration form as soon as possible. Sessions can fill up very quickly. The number of students per session is dependent on the number of adult volunteers. To ensure that we’re able to provide a safe and enjoyable activity at least two adults will be present each day. Any days that do not have at least one adult volunteer will be cancelled. Please consider signing up to help on one or more days as your schedule allows.
Questions? Please contact Cynthia House at chouse@sd25.org.
