Broadmoor's Weekly Wildcat News!

First Day of School is Thursday, August 13th!
Dear BES Families,
It's Back to School Week!
NEW FAMILIES - WELCOME!!! We are grateful you have chosen BES and our incredible school district to call home. If you have any questions, please reach out anytime.
Below are our after school pick-up procedures. The first few days are always a bit hectic, but we have a great system at BES and don't fret - the line moves quickly once we all get into the swing of things! The most important thing YOU can do is to share our procedures with anyone picking up students, read through our procedures, ask questions, and be patient. If you have other students to pick-up at another school, do not worry. You will be fine on time and if you are a little late, we will take care of your child until you arrive. There's no need to be in a rush when it comes to the safety of our kids!
Tuesday night is our open house night. Not only is this a great time to meet the teacher, but you can also meet our office staff, social worker, and me! We also have a community fair in our gym. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about our community and what businesses, organizations, and clubs we have in Louisburg. Classrooms will be open from 6-7pm. The Community Fair is open from 6-8pm.
Since we are a Title school, you will find our Parent-School-Student Learning Compact on your child's desk. This is a commitment of all to ensure learning for all. Please sign and leave on your child's desk for their teacher to also sign. You will also find information regarding our GLOW BASH! This is a fun walk-a-thon type of party we host at the beginning of every school year. This year, Glow Bash will be on August 29th from 7-9pm at Wildcat Stadium! Thank you for your support!
It is going to be a great year and I thank you for your partnership. See you Tuesday night!

Before and After School Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures
Drop-off and pick-up procedures can be tricky. Please read these directions and feel free to stop by at back-to-school night and ask any questions for clarification. It is important that students and families follow our procedures, not only for safety, but so that we can keep track of students at all times.
Please be patient and always aware of surroundings during these times. A few minutes is not worth an accident. If you are needing to get to another school, there is plenty of time and the schools work together to ensure students are safe until picked up.
Drop-Off: Drop-off of all students will still take place along the east side of BES. Students should exit their parents’ vehicle along the front sidewalks, from the BES front door all the way to the playground. Once your child has exited, please check for traffic and pull out to exit the lot. You do not need to wait in the line. We have adults out there to make sure kids get into school safely!
At the corner of the drop-off line, on the SE corner, be sure that both lines of traffic come to a stop as students may be crossing there.
Pick-Up:
All 3rd and 4th grade students will exit the south doors.
If you park in the south or east lots, please help cross your students from our sidewalks and crossing guards to your vehicle. We ask that you model safe pedestrian practices and cross at a crosswalk. Do not walk with your children in between vehicles.
Vehicles need to line up at the very front of the drive-thru lane at the SW side of BES. This line will wrap around to the east side of the building. When your child is safely in your vehicle, please check for traffic and then pull around the line to exit the lot. You do not need to wait in line. You may then exit to Metcalf.
All 5th grade students will exit the front doors of BES.
- 5th grade vehicles are asked to pull into the lot east of BES. Do not stay in the line waiting along the curb. Enter our parking lot in the left lane and park in the east lot. Students will be brought over to you. Please help by exiting your vehicle to meet your child and safely walk back to your vehicle. You may then exit at the south end of the lot, near the soccer fields.
Walkers/Bike Riders: Due to traffic and safety concerns, all walkers or bike riders are encouraged to only cross at the marked crosswalks that have crossing guards. This is at the corner of 5th and Metcalf, at the west end exit of the BES lot and 5th Street or at the south end of the BES parking lot. Please walk the route with your students prior to the first day of school so that they understand the safest route to take each day.
We will have many adults assisting in the first few weeks of school. We are confident that these procedures will work effectively with some time, practice and patience!
If you have any questions, please contact the BES office at (913) 837-1900.

Attendance and School Calendar
Please take note of our school calendars when planning your family's vacations.
Attendance is a focus at BES and we want your children at school! It can be very difficult for students to get caught up sometimes when they miss for extended periods of time. For example, when a student misses a week of school, that is up to 450 minutes of math instruction they are missing!
If your family does have a trip planned, we do not provide lessons or materials ahead of those trips. Teachers will work with you to schedule times when your student can be given that instruction and guided work time to ensure mastery of skills. This may have to happen before or after school, but we will also try to work during the school day as well.
GREAT school habits now help prepare students for future success!
