Only eight school days left until our Thanksgiving Break and the snow flurries have started! Please make sure children have proper attire to go outside during their recess time, as we like to give them as many opportunities as possible to play outside despite the change of seasons. Speaking of cooler weather, be on the lookout for raffle tickets being sent home to sell for the PTO Thanksgiving Basket Raffle! Our warming tree is up in the entrance-way to our school! If you would like to help support students in need of winter attire please come take a tag off of our tree. Please contact Nurse Jessamyn at jdelude@sau71.org with any questions. It is also not too late for families in need to be added.

This week we started our winter sports, by kicking off with our cheer program on Wednesday and hosting our basketball "drop in" event tonight! Please stop by the LCS gym this evening from 5-6 p.m. if your 5th-8th grader is interested in being part of this coed team. Your child will also be coming home with an order form for Wildcats apparel! An electronic copy is posted on our LiveFeed for anyone who did not receive it. Please note that the due date for these orders is November 25th (not 5th). Two community activities that we support are still looking for interested students. The first is the Ski & Snowboard Club. Information and a short survey are located here. The second is the Miner-Memorial Library Club that is now taking sign ups for it's second four-week session here.

I want to thank everyone in advance for your flexibility as we move into the time of unpredictable weather and uncertain transportation. We have been proactive in already scheduling a snow date for our Holiday Concert and have been working hard on planning alternative transportation using our vans while our bus driver is on maternity leave. Just to clarify, we are not in need of van drivers at this time. We have licensed drivers already on staff but vehicle size does limit how many students we can safely transport in each run. We have not yet found any applicants that are certified to drive a school bus or willing to work the unpredictable schedule as a substitute driver. We continue to explore multiple options at this time and will be putting out a rough schedule very soon.

Another Successful Trip to Hulbert!

Last Friday, the majority of our 6th-8th graders returned from three days and two nights in Hulbert with Ms. Tremblay, Mr. Nate, Mr. Peterson and Ms. Mahieu. The focus of this annual trip is to build positive outdoor experiences and promote teamwork for our middle school students. This year we were able to accommodate a few students who were not able to attend the full three days and offered a day trip experience for them. In total, 36 students were able attend this year. We are thankful to have received a grant from Avangrid that cut the cost to students nearly in half! While the weather was cool the overall experience was heart-warming. Here are some photos taken by Ms. Tremblay and Ms. Mahieu!

Holiday Photos to Support Our Library

As most of you know, LCS did not have a librarian for a number of years. This year we brought back the position of part-time librarian and Ms. Magurk has big ideas on how to turn our school library into a more interactive learning space! She will be fundraising for the library by offering family holiday photos at the Christmas Craft Fair on December 6th. Please see the flyer for detailed information.

First Quarter Student Recognition Ceremony

On Thursday of this past week, LCS held their first all school assembly. This assembly followed previous years tradition of recognizing students who had the highest achievement and those who showed the greatest amount of growth (since spring) on their first NWEA assessment. Congratulations to all of our recipients. Here is the list of our middle school student who made honor roll (A's & B's in their four core classes) and high honor roll (A's in all four core classes)! A few other areas were recognized during the assembly as well, including students with perfect attendance. Twenty students were awarded for being on time and present all day since the first day of school. We want our students and staff to want to be here as much as possible so in addition to this student recognition, staff and students were introduced to a challenge for the second quarter! The class that has the greatest % of students and their teacher present during the second quarter will win a pizza party!
